TT advise please

Postby carl f » Fri Feb 29, 2008 6:09 pm

Well, after some sound advise from Jim the other day,i've bought the pointy hat.
Next thing-wheels.
Apart from trying to justify it to my wife,is it really worth me splashing 500 quid on a set of planet x wheels?.How much time will this save on a 40k duathlon bike split or TT?
I will be competing on my non aero set up felt, with zonda wheels, normal drops
Or....is it all in the legs :)
My bike split wasn't very good last year-1.09(rolling 40k course) but that was after a 37 min 10k run.I kept hearing the frightning sound of carbon wheels behind me-as george puts it-wop wop :D , then seeing them dissapear in front of me :o
Any advise please
Thanks
Carl

There was a top ten for aero improvements somewhere? If I were you I'd get tri bars and forget the wheels, at least for now...

As everyone else says I would spend money on some tribars rather than wheels. If you want to improve wheels cheaply then getting a wheel cover that can turn your rear wheel into a disk will save you just as much time as some fancy wheels at a fraction of the cost. Try http://www.wheelbuilder.com - it cost me about £50 and I've done all my pbs using one.

Thanks guys
Forgot to mention,i have the tri bars,so i will be in the aero tuck as long as i can hold it for
The course is on long drags so its not dead flat but rolling, from what i remember last year, there's only one or two hills where you need to get of the tri bars
Re the skin suit,i have some tri shorts and vest,so hopefully that will be aero enough
Rich-great idea,i'll look into that, but i heard if your using a disk, you need to be av 25mph to make it affective,is that true?
So the main reason i got left behind by some people is becouse they have better legs than me,not becouse of the wheels :)
Cheers

Thanks snoop, managed to hold the tuck position for an hour this morning no probs, but don't know if the legs are any stronger
Good luck with the new lid,got mine from wiggle, they are selling the bell lids(phantom 2 i think) for £63 plus a fiver off over £50.
Bit cheaper than splashing 500 on some wheels,i will look daft but has saved me lots of grief at home :D
