Additional miles to club run for the slower ones

Postby Amy » Mon Apr 21, 2008 2:02 pm

In my quest to get back up to strength I have decided to try and stay out all day on Saturdays or at least a bit longer by continuing on from Charlwood and getting onto some lanes I haven't been on in ages.

As it would be nice to have some company and to prove that longer rides do not have to be the sole preserve of the hard fast men, perhaps some of the slower people (17s and down) would like to join me in building up strength and stamina in doing some extra miles and maybe some real hills :D

I will try and think of some places to aim for but if you have any ideas of where you'd like to ride please let me know, either post a reply here or pm me.

I hope to start doing this in May (3rd May provisionally, no definitely) as I'm helping at the Open 25 next Sunday and will be up at some ungodly hour in the morning with maybe Paul Tunnel's ride to the coast if that's still on (if it isn't I'll probably ride back)

I will be up for this as I need to do a few hills in preparation for the Dragon Ride.

Yes, I realise an all day pass for some people may be awkward. The cat may complain but she has to put up with it...

I was thinking of riding further out from Charlwood before looping back to another cafe somewhere and maybe if the clubrun actually gets to leave on time in the morning doing some proper all day rides (11's, lunch, tea  )

I won't be aiming to go up hills - just if they happen to be there or I fancy a ride around Hurtwood and Ranmore. I will eventually move onto some of the hillier routes but not for the first few weeks. I can point you towards some good ones but maybe you should think about doing the Hilly 50 at first and then the ToSH a few times - I hope to be up for those later this summer :D

Route is now available to view in the Routes forum :D

Connor, it should do you - I'm going to go up a few hills including Leith Hill and Little Switzerland (in contradition to my previous post  )

I wouldn't mind latching on to this at Reigate if you pass this way - any idea of when you might pass through?

Phil, I'm going to go down with the usual suspects, have 11s at Charlwood and then start the ride from there. Basically it's an all day ride. The aim is a slow but steady ride to help me and others improve our stamina. Hills such as Leith Hill can be climbed at one's own speed with a regroup afterwards - so long as people do not charge up four or five abreast...

Of course if people want to do it in a group of their own, please go ahead - I'll be doing it at my speed pretty much :D

Paul, come on - we'll wait if we have to
