Bank Holiday Brighton Run

Postby David Findlay » Tue Aug 31, 2004 1:18 pm

Big thanks to Ian Munnery for organising the Brighton run yesterday. Circa 40 ridrers was a great turnout. I made my owm way back from the dual carriageway via the ususal Charlwood run. Thought I could do with the exercise!.

Should make this one of the longer club runs on a Saturday on a more regular basis.

Dave Pook has suggested using the Regency Cafe across the road from the old West Pier for future reference.
Cheers
David

Yes great ride thanks to all involved.

Clocked up 115 miles due to getting lost after the Beacon climb (my fault) and ending up in Newhaven ;-) good training for upcoming 12 hour night race ...

Thanks to ACC for putting me through hell and back.
:D :D "Come and join our friendly club" or words to that effect. :D :D
Then after week 2 we'll put you over BOXHILL then four weeks later WE put you over the DITCHLING BEACON (813 feet above sea level). Then just for laughs you can ride back. :D :D :D Total mileage 98.7
OH what joy.
No really thank you very much for a great day out and didn't ache for at least 1 minute after I stopped riding when I got to the car. A special thanks to all the others who helped me the last 40 miles :) . Run out of energy about half way home :!: then got second wind :o with the through and off on the dual carrageway.
Was Dreading commute this morning but was feeling great and done another extra 20 miles after I got home this evening. .
Getting more addictive to riding everytime I go out with you GUYS and GIRLS.

Glad you enjoyed it , you still looked pretty strong, and the thru and off on the dual carriage way is kind of ingrained in you after a while.
2 bottle cages are needed on the longer rides so I would suggest a small reward of a new one, that and a few energy bars in a pocket, you are not always hungry but a bit of tucker at regular intervals keeps away the bonk.
We had a young lad called Peter in our group, tall lad, very lean, he rides every saturday and has bags of energy leaves me behind in the sprints etc ( not that hard ) plus he is quite a good climber, well to please the older members he runs out of steam at 138 km! Chris and I were quite happy to see that , still I gave him a power bar and he soon recovered.
Well done to eveyone who came , quite a few , perhaps as many as 40.

I know the Regency from when the Pearsons Team do their Brighton and back run on the day of the Charity ride ( they leave Carshalton at 0600 ).
The Regency are cyclist friendly, they allowed 16 bikes to be kept downstairs just alongside the restaurant. Great breakfasts , esp the scrambled eggs.

btw , there's a nicer way to get back to Rusper/Charlwood from Devils Dyke by taking the lanes that run between the A23 and the A281 but I was hestitant to suggest anything as I'm unsure of all the turnings myself.
Thought I'd mention it as the A281 can get a bit busy.
