One door opens, another closes, urgent shout for help please

D'oh!!

No sooner do I get the SCCU 50 covered than my first helper pulls out :( So - back where I started I need someone to step in and do their bit - would be really good if this was someone who is yet to make their marshalling contribution  please. I'm sorry for sounding like a scratched record - the easy way to silence me is to get in touch and offer your services :D

Snoop, where exactly is it and what would I need to do? I may be able to make this as it's the week before Etape so I won't be doing any serious riding that weekend. PM me with the details or post here and I'll check with Mrs Dombo's tennissing schedule

Thanks for getting in touch. Good questions. The race HQ is at Broadbridge Heath village Hall in Wickhurst Lane at the junction of the A264 (though you enter the road via old guildford road. It's near(ish) the bottom end of the club run.

First rider is off at 6am. Roughly, the course follows the A24/264 out towards Crawley and back to the A24 near Southwater, then back towards HQ. I can approach the organiser and see if we can get you allocated a specific role, eg something near the start of the race to finish earlier or something nearer the end to avoid a super early start. No guarantees but we have a good working relationship. Roles include pushing off, marshalling (just pointing to the riders where to go - it's the riders responsibility to know the course mind) at a junction, number spotting, assisting timekeepers, making cups of tea.....can't think of anything else at the mo.

Will wait to hear from you if you can make it great. If not hopefully this info will assist others thinking about it

Cheers - Snoop

I'm still stuck folks. Dombo - appreciate you checking - I've replied to yr PM. Come on - I've got a list of names that I know have marshalling duties outstanding I'm going to draw from the hat if I don't get a hand up by Friday night. There's an awful lot of racers on that list......

Nice idea Ivor - I can't make it to CSS unfortunately. I'm helping to set things up for my daughter's school fair. I'm collecting the donuts for starters - a few may go missing on the way eh wot..? If anyone feels willing to rattle the tin on Saturday I'd appreciate it. I know a lot of people feel uncomfortable doing this kind of thing so no pressure y'all.

The offer's still there, Snoop. I don't mind, honest - especially if I can ride back (on my nice new bike.... :D )

Amy that's very kind of you. I'm literally sitting here cutting out names of people to draw a lucky winner. They should be extremely thankful to you! I wonder is Mike still able to get you down there...? I will ping a note to Tony Alston - d'you want me to see if we can get you your preferred role...?

Thanks so much - you've saved me an awkward moment with one of our many shirkers.

I suppose it'll have to be one nearest the hq if I have to ride there (from the hq that is). Of course, if this makes one of your shirkers feel guilty enough to step forward, I won't mind

Mike, you still able to give me a lift??

Amy - Yes, no problem.

Snoop - If you want a real challenge, get Amy a job which means she and I have to be at HQ at about the same time. And, no, I have no idea what my start time is!
