[quote="Robh"]MARCHISIO AVIOTEK SH10 CASSETTE

£109 !!! :shock:

[quote="Ivor"]Yeah. You'll be able to get one of the sram cassettes with that sort of range.

mea culpa, not for 10 speed though sorry.

Ah - I think I may have been down this road before. The Marchisio says not shimano 10 speed freehub compatible. I suppose that means new freehub. I think it's possible then. I guess a practical option might be to have spare rear wheel with larger sprockets for the hilliest rides.
The other thing is - does ultegra long arm rear mech cope with a 30 sprocket?? Shimano say no but I suspect it may be possible.

sue - if i understand your first post you don't already have a compact chainset - wouldn't that be the best option?

Err- triple. I don't have racing legs like you big chaps! Tried compact and didn't like it much - prefer my 30-39-52 triple.

I struggle on the very steepest of hills 1:5 eg Chalkpit even with 30F/27R gears. I quite like MTB/hybrid gearing 28/38/48 and 12-30 cassette.

go up tandridge hill lane or titsey hill instead? :)

I wonder if your front mech would let you replace your inner ring with a 28T instead of the 30T?
