Sadly for me it's become something of a disappointment since they scrapped the Asian Mela :(

[rant] I believe that the Croydon Asian Mela was the biggest event of it's kind in the UK, and I simply can't forgive New Labour for interfering with something which was so hugely successful because of their own 'political agenda', and reducing it to nothing more than a glorified fair :( Why couldn't they just leave it alone :? [/rant]

................still, I'll probably be there

But it's no longer called the ASIAN Mela !

Not being racist or anything, but I much preferred it when it was just asian .....why couldn't they leave it alone ?

If I go to an asian restaurant I don't expect to see spaghetti bolognese on the menu !...........nothing against italians like

Not sure I understand the political references but I believe Croydon Council is Conservative!

The wholly asian character of the mela was scrapped when New Labour was in control of Croydon Council.
Which I find makes it difficult for me to blame the Conservatives.

meh. i have to admit that the mela was what made the CSF good, but its not healthy to section off and label one day. inter-faith and inter-community dialogue would be better, and possible have a range of cultures. anyway, we'll leave that to boris and his trusty advisors, such as ray lewis.

tis indeed. although i quite like astana. i have a lot of respect for people who are self aware and try to change. i think its a vain attempt, but at least theyr trying andsticking by the sport. plus they represent a contingent that is not always at the fore of bike racing.

although saying that Iran aint half bad at cycling. it wont be long till the asian invasion hits cycling.

I don't know about 'better', but it's certainly a good idea.
So why couldn't they just have an inter-national/inter-faith/inter-ethnic/inter-community/inter-sexual orientation fair to satisfy the needs of white middle-class politicians, and leave the Asian Mela alone ?

Though I must admit that I was very pleasantly surprised on Sunday to find that it now appears to have gone back much more to it's original Asian theme. Perhaps the present administration in Taberner House is now a bit less obsessed with having to appear 'inclusive'
