kind of agree with marco about the wait before you start training idea.
4 weeks of the bike is nothing, muscles have a good memory so you wont have lost anything that cant be regained quickly.
if you really want to get back to training, then start off slowly. think of a taper, start with a nice session in the gym either on a rower or fast walking, or indoor cycle trainer. anything to keep your cardio system active. that will be beneficial for recovery, but you dont need to do any hard sessions, theres no need for anything like that especially at this time of year.
again with the cycling abroad trip, theres really no need to go mental thinking the more you ride the faster/fitter you will be. ride a couple of days, make it fun rather than training based... the training aspect of riding should really be secondary to enjoyment... unless you plan on earning a living from the sport. then its a different kettle of fish..
