weekday rides

Postby Alan M » Tue Apr 03, 2007 8:39 pm

I have been meaning to post this for some time.

Every Tuesday and Thursday a group of mainly but not exclusively older riders Meet at BETCHWORTH, approx 100 metres south of Knights Plant Centre and leave for a ride that averages 50 Miles. the longest for me from sanderstead was 82 miles

The pace on Thursday is more sedate and therefore attracts a different group including some women. It is about 15/16mph.

On Tuesdays there is a faster pace, an average of 18mph today with some very hard sections, but we always regroup at tops of hills. Today there were 25+ out and we end with a sprint finish and take in some other sprints along the way.

Both groups stop for tea and cake and we do a 4 week rotation of cafes and eat some of the best cake in the country.

The group is entirely self sustaining and welcoming. A guy called Dave Gill arranges it - just turn up but if you are late they will be gone.

If you want the list of rides PM me with an email address and I'll send it to you.

I usually do at least one of them a week depending on weather and mood.

Hope to see you out there some time!

Mmmmmmm.... 82 miles this morning. There were about 20+ out and we went to Dane Hill, Heaven farm. Good quick service and chickens helping to eat your sandwiches.

Nobody really knew the way so we stopped and started - a slower group left a bit early. Even so we averaged above 19mph and there was a super fast section on the way back which was 23/24 mph for about 8 miles. The pace is pushed by a 6.4, 16 st guy called Cliff who wins all the sprints without any problem and another guy who is very fast on the flat and whose head leans further to one side the faster he goes.

I peeled off a Leigh and dropped into Cafe Rouge at Reigate for injections and followed this with a 14mph return home, a quick carbohydrate feast and a siesta!

Off to Madrid this weekend so no riding until next Tuesday. I think I'll need some runs in the park to help me keep up with this lot!
