Let's Be Careful Out There, Vol. 149

Tricrashalete :D here -

After ages without a spill I came off my bike last night. I was on my commute home on Kennington Park Road, near Lambeth North station. Guess I was building up some crash karma for quite a while.

As I was tootling along, minding my own business, a dark shape hurtled out from between parked cars and ran smack into me. On the way down I contemplated the gyroscopic effect of rotational momentum - why it sucks that it only works linearly.

My right elbow (road rash) and hip (deep bruise) bore the brunt of the road impact. I also lost a chunk out of the back of my Met Stradivarius - another helmet advertisement - and my Selle Italia Octavia now is a bit frayed.

My Look cleats were stripped and the chain shipped but mysteriously the drivetrain stayed intact. My glasses, on the other hand, look like Dizzy Gillespie's trumpet and as the pad burrowed into my nose I look like an extra from Lock Stock.

The major irony here - and we Yanks know and appreciate fine irony in all its vintages - is that my pedestrian collision was with a cyclist. Who didn't look before crossing.

Fortunately we collided right in front of the cop shop so a PC and WPC were right on top of things, got us sorted out, had us trade info, and took care of us in general. London's Finest.

So let's be careful out there!

Dan B

Hope you recover very soon.

Would you have been soooo polite in your comments if it had been a motor vehicle. For I sure as hell know I wouldn't be. :)

All the Best

Nick
