Off Road club run

Postby higg » Tue Oct 07, 2008 1:59 pm

It's back on, well at least this week (Oct 11) and next week (Oct 18).

After talking to Alex at the cafe last week it looks like there is growing interest in this ride. So for the next two weeks I'll lead the same ride. I'm away for a few weekends in November so hopefully someone else can remember the route by then.

The only question then is when do people want to start, 8.30 or 9.00. Depending on who turns up and the weather the ride can take anything between 2 and 3 hours. Starting at 8.30 almost garauntees that we get to the cafe before everyone starts moving on.

The paths are a mixture of bridleways and quiet roads and are mostly easy if a little bumpy in one ot two places. Any bike will do but a mountain bike would be the most comfortable. Bear in mind that the return from the cafe will be by road. This is more a leisure ride than a training level ride and the intention is that everybody who starts gets to the cafe. (There are many bail-out point to roads though for any last minute changes of mind).

Just to get an idea of numbers please post if you intend to come with a preferred time.

I do like the sound of an offroader. I just hope it's not as hard as it sounds.

45 ish miles on a road bike is a lovely ride :D , and the rolling roads on 110psi road tyres can be so smooth.
I have done 35 mile mountain bike ride before and I remember how long it was, but what the hell... I'd live to give it a try.

Marky Mark on the list please  . I think 8.30 is a must.

Roll up, roll up. Lets get the list bigger.

That's great Aodan - as you saw I passed the message on.

Are you gonna post about choice of start time 8.30 or 9?

I think that if possible we should kick off at around 8:30. What time did you get back to Coulsdon last Saturday?

Pretty sure I can't do either of those dates Aodan, but fingers crossed it kicks off and I fancy doing the odd one for a bit of change. I think 8.30 would be a better start timeor it'll always be last in the queue at the cafe and on a MTB you don't want to be last away and have to chase the group down  .

Ok then, so officially it's a 8.30 start, that probably means arriving a few minutes earlier and leaving fairly prompt.

Looks like the weather will be good on Saturday so let's make the most of it.

As for return times, last time I got back to Redhill with the main group but it was a bit of work in places, realisticaly we would arrive back in Croydon about 15-20mins after the main group.

Any more takers for the off roader?

Just a last double check to see if it is on. I do hope so. :D

Well I'm the fastest man in the club but I'm game for trial by mud, I'll be there.
Stupid question but is normal ACC kit ok or do you recommend anything stronger?

Non-club kit is better but it doesn't matter really on this route.
