Marmotte

Is anyone attempting it this year?

Entry has opened and I have entered. Although I am just going to try and get round the course.

I am thinking of sorting out some accomodation might be cheaper to get a gite but we would have to book quickly as a lot of them are taken that week.

I am going for 2 weeks from the 2 july till the 16th so I can catch the tour.
If there is no interest I will probably just camp.

Let me know.

Cheers

Sound's interesting, might just stay for one week though. Is it possible to get both marmotte and tour in one week ?

In theory yes but you might not be mentally prepared.

The event is on Saturday 9th so you could fly after work on friday (might cost you). The Tour goes over the galiber on the wednesday.

Or you could take thursday - wednesday off.

Well have a think about it and we'll see if there are any others interested.

Cheers

I would be interested - I am hoping to do the Marmotte, or just pootle around in the Alps on my bike. (which might mean all and one of the same !)

I would probably only go for one week though. I've not checked out the geography in full but it would be good to be somewhere central to Bourg D'Oisans where the Marmotte will start/finish, Grenoble, the start town for that particular mountain stage, and the liveliest place in that area, and col Galibier which would be a great vantage point to watch the stage.

The Marmotte starts in bourg d'oisans.
There is a mountain finish on the tuesday but that is quite far away. I was thinking of driving near it and then cycling half way up the mountain finish to watch.(If I take my car)
The tour comes over the galiber on the wednesday.

I was thinking of the following places: Alpe D'Huez, Les Deus Alpes(15km away), Villard Reculas(on the way to allemont from huez), La Garde(5/6 hairpins up alpe d'huez), Huez(more hairpins up alpe d'huez). The cheapest is Les Deus Alpes however that is because it is not very convenient for what we would be doing.......

I think I will get probably get somewhere since I have entered now. Will have to try and make more club runs this year though.

Marmotte accomodation

Postby Gavin » Fri Jan 21, 2005 11:05 pm

I have booked myself a pitch at a campsite at the bottom of alpe d'huez from the 2nd - 16th of july.

Main points will be

Marmotte Saturday 8th July
Tour de France over galibier Wednesday 12th July.

I'll be out on the club runs most weeks on my green cannondale (bianchi colour) if you want to have a chat.

Alll the best with the Marmotte preperation.

Cheers
