Extended extended club run on Saturday 5th Feb!

Postby David Findlay » Mon Jan 31, 2005 5:29 pm

Thinking about a longer ride on Saturday, 95/100miles CSS return.

Possible location Arundel.

Leave CSS at 8.00am, not sure when back but hopefully around 2.00pm.

Pace steady 18mph.

Let me know if you are interested.

cheers

Hi Dave, I am up for this as long as we keep off the main roads. I know what your route planning is like and I don't want to spend Saturday fending off the cars.

Cheers

Hey Dave,

I was thinking about maybe doing the following on Saturday. We could cycle over to Alfold via the back roads, quite a flat route and we could do the Alfold circuit. This would be good reconnaisance for the March race. We could then head into Petworth for coffee and cake and then head back. What do you think, if you fancy it could you work out the route as I am not overly sure.

I did this route last year and it is just over 100miles.

Cheers

Excellent ride today. Left CSS at 8.00am with six riders. Dave F, Max, Natasha, Carl, Simon H and myself. Took it steady and made our way over to Newdigate where we turned off and headed over to Ockley.

Simon had to get back early so I sent him off in the direction of Whitedown, hope you got back ok Si.

We then made our way over to Alfold, 10 miles away from Horsham. This is the course for one of the Surrey League road races. We scouted the course and then cycled over to Horsham where we dropped off Natasha at the train station and then we went for coffee and toast at the cafe in Horsham park. Dave F got a bit upset as the staff in the cafe didn't butter the toast, had to do it ourselves, we are obviously spoilt at Charlwood Cafe.

We then cycled from Horsham up to Pease Pottage where we took the dual carriageway down towards the normal dual carriageway run. This is a superb bit of dual carriageway, we bombed down it at close to 40mph. We the cycled over to Charlwood where we had the normal sprint for the Charlwood sign. Which Dave F lost, probably due to the amount of butter he put on his tea cake.

We then headed back over to CSS via the normal club run route. 140km on the clock when I got back.

Cheers

Excellent ride indeed spoilt only by the need to butter one's teacake. One expects more for £1.50. (mind you Marek paid so suppose one can't complain)

Will set up another ride next Saturday..
Cheers
