[quote="Elliot M"]I make it slightly higher at 1 in 59,318,610, plus or minus a bit.

3 tests in 18 months, where person needs to be available 5 days out of each 7.

and that's not taking into account intra-day movements
I'm rubbish as maths. Can one of you staticians break it down please?

Toks,

The chance of missing one day in a year is 1 in 365. Once you've missed that then the chance of missing the second one is 1 in 364, etc. So my calculation was 365 x 364 x 363 = 48,228,180.

Elliot's version is over 18 months but only 5 days a week, so 365 x 1.5 x 5/7 = 391 days.
So 391 x 390 x 389 = 59,318,610

Not sure that she is a cheat....

At the time, some quite big names in athletics came out and suppoirted her. I think one was Steve Cram...

Sure they must have checked her out before supporting her...

Cheats will always get support from some quarters.
How can you say you're not sure she is a cheat when she clearly, knowingly, failed to comply with the requrements in place regarding drug testing?
I reckon the only reason she was able to end up in Beijing was because she was one of only two hopeful medal winners in Track and Field. :( :(

If she was an American cyclist from Texas with 7 Tour wins I know where this thread would be going.

And he neither failed a test or "forgot" to turn up for one. Or three.

er but realistically how many times a year will she be tested. 30-50 maybe? mmm[quote="John the old'un"]Cheats will always get support from some quarters.

Are you calling her a cheat because she was a no show at 3 testing oportunities? Or is she a cheat because you think she would have failed those test?

I call her a cheat because she did not comply with the established system in place to attempt to control the use of drugs in sport.
I dont have any view on whether or not she would have failed or passed the tests.
Only she knows the answer to that question, but she is required by the system to establish that answer.
She knowingly declined to do so.
I rest my case.

Fair enough then John. I've read quite a bit now and although I accept its suspicious I think she was just really careless. I haven't seen or read anything else that shows she has been a calculated cheat. Yes three were three missed tests in 17 months (one of them she actually asked the tester to wait there)- she's on her way) But what else is there to prove guilt? Cool its been a good discussion :D

I'm no expert, but I'd have thought handing over a test tube of foaming Persil smelling vaguely of wee might raise a few eyebrows.

Exactly, look at the way Tom Simpson is still lauded today.

Yep, a flawed genius. I know he done bad, and I think he was great. He knew he done bad too. Guess he didn't think it'd kill 'im mind. One of the finest cycling moments I've ever had the pleasure of enjoying was spending time with Tommy a mere 1500m below the summit of the giant of Provence. Awesome place, what a geezer.

Oh dear...

[quote="mrP(Boonen)VT"]Anyone read Linford Christie's book about how he would be able to build up the concentration of drugs, missing tests until the effects had gone down.

I didn't know that lunchbox had fessed up to being a drugs cheat. When did he do this? I nearly got assaulted several years back by a work colleague, who was a keen athlete, when I suggested as much, so am interested to know more...

Regarding Ohurugu, I don't think missing a drugs test is like forgetting to take a document to a meeting - it's much worse than that. It's like completely forgetting an unusual and critically important meeting with a senior manager / partner / key client / CEO etc - the sort of meeting that's on your mind for days in advance. One instance of doing so is career limiting. Three times and it's definitely game-over! The only plausible explanation for doing so is......
