Club road rides on a mtb

Postby Dombo » Sat Feb 19, 2005 10:28 am

Hi. I am a keen mtb-er but want to get some road miles in as I am training for the Gorrick and Afan Argoed Enduros in May. I only have a mtb but bought some skinny high pressure tyres recently and wondered if I would be able to ride with you guys on any of the club road rides, given different gearing, bike weight, technique etc? I am based in Caterham so getting to CSS is no problem. (Also living here you get used to hills!).

Thanks for any advice.

I think a few people have been out on MTBs before with no problem.

Sylv springs to mind as one, and also Dom L who rode a club run once with flat pedals!

You'll have no problems at all keeping up with one of the groups. I did it for quite a while on my MTB. Wasn't sure if you meant your tyres were skinny offroad tyres or slicks? This will make the biggest difference. Also, if you can lock out or adjust your fork/rear suspension that will be a bonus.

Hi. The tyres I have are 1" specialized all condition pros at 115 psi. Fork can be dropped down to just 30mm travel and the rear shock has no lockout but a few more psi should stop it bobbing. Do you have different ability groups?

Yes most Saturdays there are several speed groups.

15, 17 ,19 Mph as an average and if your LUCKY a 21 Group.

But you WILL NOT get left behind.

The Club PRIDES it's SELF on this attitude towards all riders as some of us even feel the pain and then just grab a wheel and get a tow.
We must not allow the clock and the calendar to blind us to the fact that each moment of life is a miracle and mystery.
