It's cold

Postby mrP(Boonen)VT » Tue Dec 30, 2008 11:10 am

Well it certainly was this morning at 7:30am heading out to work  -2 degrees

Decided to keep to the main roads and headed off up the A24. this is a gentler route than my usual one up Rusper, and soon the average was up to 17mph :D until the long drag up through Kingsfold and up to Clarks Green roundabout (turn of the 10). The exposed section of dual carriageway the temperature noticeably dropped and my feet and hands started to feel cold (thanks to Santa, my new Gore jacket kept the top half warm :D ) got uto 25mph and the wind chill was too severe, so slowed down

Up Box Hill (-4degrees) was a bit of a challenge with 250kg in my pannier bag  , but made it in a whisker under 10 minutes including a cup of tea stop at the top  - and no I didn't use 53*12 or any such silly combination  It was even colder up here and the ride along the ridge was really painful. Feet and hands really suffering now.

Crossed the M25 and got an ICY BLAST of wind from the east, and a slippery section of road negotiated safely.

Now thankfully warming up in the toasty office.

Be careful out there.

Yep Paul I have to agree with you.

I left Merstham at 7am for a blast along the A23 and Brighton Road into Central Croydon. When I got to the digital thermomiter next to Leon House it was reading -3 and this was at about 7.30am. It definitely felt warmer there than it had been in Merstham.

Still the roads are nice a quiet and it'll be nice for a ride home through Selsdon, Chelsam, Woldingham to Oxted and Bletchingley and back to sunny Merstham :D

I'm off work for a few weeks and the temperature has bee far too cold for me in the mornings to go out training so I've been going out around 12ish every day.
I didn't fancy the Brighton Ice blast on Sunday but will be out with Mr  and co for the lunch trip.

I've left the bike at home yesterday and today (my only 2 days in the office this week) as it's just so cold at 7.30, and then would be again at 17.30 that I couldn't face it. A couple of rest days and some good reading on relatively empty trains.

I stayed warm and toasty under the duvet until 9.30, saw the heavy frost and decided to leave the road bikes at home. Instead I got the cross bike out and went out to play. Most of the ground was frozen, so the bridleways which had been churned up by horses were all rideable but hellishly bumpy (and covered in frozen horse poo).
