knacker cracker

What were YOU doing at 11.30am on new year's day.
A few hundred (fool)hardy souls shook off the hangovers to compete in the annual 10k fancy dress run around the Box Hill.
A fun event it might be but the course is brutal - featuring repeated off-road climbs in various gradients to the top and bottom of Box Hill.

ACC featured with two appallingly dressed representatives- Chloe, who got up late and didn't have time to finish her shower before taking the line and Stu who came straight from the previous evening's party where the theme was 'Wuthering Heights meets TK Max'.

Anyway we did actually manage to trouble the scorers, Chloe's outfit winning best women's costume on the day - though I suspect this was due largely to the 'wardrobe malfunction' which resulted in her inadvertently (yeah, right) flashing the judges.

my knackers were truly crackered at the end of the run- you can probably tell by the way my leg has gone all kack in that photo.

i started off too fast, and had it been a 6k run i would have been fine...after that i was suffering big time. i had tried to keep up with this one woman who i had been with from the beginning. she was super quick, and at the top of one of the ascents of box hill she started to pull away from me and i completely blew up just past the 6k marker. i had to stop for a minute or so, and pretend to stretch  , i had pushed so hard i couldnt see straight, but after that i felt ok and carried on at a more sensible pace. by the end she beat me by about 8 minutes!! but she was the fastest woman of the day....i think her name was paula?

i saw chloes friend john a couple of times when i was running back up the hills and he was coming down.( we had to run down the the bottom of them, and back up each time!) he looked like he was suffering, so i forgave myself for how bad i was feeling. i didnt get to see chloe at all when i was running back up the hills, i guess i was doing so well.....or could it be i had a 10 minute head start?

really good fun, everyone there was really friendly and there were some great costumes, well done chloe for winning the best womans costume!

what i great way to start the year!

oh and i think my time was about 58 minutes

Well Done Chloe and Stu,

Thought of you as i was doing my box hill reps!!! i'll stick with a burger from ryka's and three times up and down the hill on bike as training enough without chucking in a fancy dress run up the hill!!! What is it with this time of year for bringing out all the loonies!!! Knacker cracker indeed!!! Now if it was on a bike now that would be interesting!!!

Cheers Huw for the update, that route you showed me out to Box Hill is a real beauty using sections of the Surrey cycleway as it does...
Just about remembered all the turns...

A lady stopped me at the top of box to let a runner through, she was stopping traffic by waving some castonettes!!! Themed marshals crazzzzyyyyy!!!

Thought about trying the Ctc Hilly 50 route but decided against as Jon Leith has arranged a trial run this sat at 12 from Ryka's is that right?
