The 900 Cannondale looks quite nice, looks like its in pretty good condition. Why not set yourself a limit and see if you can get it.

Have you considered a fixed wheel(lots of control in traffic and very little to go wrong) .

Thought about fixed, but want something I can use for a bit more than commuting.

Latest option is a Tifosi that I found in Loot.

[quote]Tifosi CK Columbus aluminum frame, 58in, Shimano Tiagra group set, Look clip pedals, 9 spd double, Mavic MA3 ring, 3T bars, excellent condition, give it a try you'll like it

Don't know much about Tifosis but they look ok.

Sounds alright, and while not exactly the spec I was after, would be fine for commuting duties.

He's asking for £400, which is a little on the pricey side. He bought it for £760 new 2 years ago, and has only replaced the chain, front mech and handlebar tape since using it to commute from Finchley to UCL and back.

So I would imagine that chain, cassette, chainrings, and poss jockey wheels and B/B will need replacing.

If I like the look of it, I will try to barter him down to nearer the £300 mark...

Yeah, cheers Marco, I know what you're saying. I'm aware of how hammered a commuting bike gets, so if it's crap or I can't get it down to a reasonable price, I'll give it a miss.

I have been looking in CW, but the few suitable bikes I've found have all been on sale by people miles away up north.

Funnily enough, this Tifosi bloke recently sold another bike that his missus has been using for commuting via... the back pages of Cycling Weekly!
