Got up early today and me and Steve Shaw (rides mountain bike with Torq, was out on road ride yesterday) headed over to Tilgate Forest. Me on my wifes mountain bike, which is getting a bit of a workout these days, and Steve on his fancy hat Kona.
Weather was very cold, but was not long before we had worked up a good sweat. The terrain was quite boggy and had to be really careful in places as you would hit big puddles and then the front wheel would just stop and nearly throw you off the bike. I am very new to this mountain biking stuff, this being my second ride so I was finding it particularly difficult on the steep sections which had branches and slippy patches on them whereas Steve was expertly bunny hopping them whilst going uphill.
We found some great little trails where some trail builders had built some really good steep banked corners which were great fun. Steve had no worries about losing me as he could hear me giggling and laughing in the background as I expertly managed to get stuck in nearly every deep mud section, but the descending stuff was great fun. Did a couple of hours and then the pull of a hot coffee was too strong and we packed up and headed for McDs for a Cappucino. Was a good workout as the hill climbing was quite tough going in the terrain and me on my wifes bike which is far too small gets my legs moving around quick.
Have any of you other MBer types been over that way, I thought it was pretty good, especially as its only a few miles away from my gaff.
Cheers
Marek...
p.s. Reckon I might get my own Mountain Bike next weekend, bring it on. Need to practice though as I have a long way to go to be able to be as skillful as the rest of you. Would love to do the snow mountain bike ride on Monday but really need to get a bike that fits. Have fun.
