Rides from Puerto Pollenca, Mallorca

Postby Andy K » Thu Mar 19, 2009 4:49 pm

Unable to make the big ACC trip to Mallorca :( but Del and I are taking a four day break based in Puerto Pollenca just as the as the rest of the ACC crowd leave - 7th April.

First thoughts are to ride out to Lluc and Soller on one of the days (landslide permitting) and possibly Sa Collobra another - and also at some point, the short ride to the lighthouse at Cap Formentor.

Does anyone have any other suggestions for 'must do' rides that are do-able in a day from Puerto Pollenca?

Also, anyone know anything about the daily group rides that start at Tollos Cafe? Distance, speed, duration etc..

Thanks

If I understand correctly the landslide road closure is between Lluc and the turn-off to Sa Calobra, so doing Sa Calobra from the PP end of the island will require a long ride south, over Coll de Soller and Puig Major and back the same way. You should still be able to do the climb up to Lluc from PP or the other way from the Inca side.

I think Cap Formentor is a must do ride if you're at PP, best done early in the morning before all the coaches get there.

I'd also recommend the Alaro-Orient-Bunyola road in either direction which is do-able from PP.

Alan M has stayed up there and I think he has the lowdown on the group ride from the cafe.

Tollo is the cafe owner, cafe is on the sea front about 400 metres from the bus terminus. It is fairly obvious. Rides generally leave weekday mornings around 9 but best to check in the cafe. Usually there are 5 or 6 riders. Tollo seems to lead them and usually they return by 1pm with one short break. Weather determines where they go and pace is probably between 16-18 mph depending on circumstances. Quite a lot of English guys, usually retired - you may meet Gary Smith owner (ex) of Evans cycles. Cap Fomentar is a good option if the mountains seem rainy.

Coast road
Inca
Santa Maria
Establishments
Calvia
Andrax
Estellenics
(can do Soller if your brave)
Bangyabolfa
Santa Maria
Inca

125 miles nice ride.

Also worth heading south to Petra and back via Arta also. As Jon says going to Cap formentor is a good idea.

Have fun.

Does that mean you're available to assist the Addiscombe Road race on the 4th?

Cheers

I believe I am down to help here - would aim to do some club run first - where and when Paul?

Bletchingley Village Hall at 12:30pm Alan would be great.

I'll probably ride over myself - meet in the cafe to leave around 11:00am.

Great stuff Andy, I am a few people short (most of them will be in Majorca!)
There are many "experienced" Agrreables around to show you on the day.
If you still want to "clubrun" in the morning, then we can meet at the cafe, and ride over to the race circuit.
