This is short notice I know but there's a bonkers endurance ride heading out this wednesday evening (10th August).
The Route
As some of you might be aware, Cycling Weekly has a 'secret' test route through the lanes called 'The Three Horrible Hills' which plays a major part in our bike tests - it's a 19mph hilly loop starting and finishing at Geoffrey Butlers which means we can fit it into a lunch hour. Yes we really do go around it in about 57 minutes on a good day and it's damnably hard!
Anyway, a couple of us are two weeks away from another major Sportiv feature and need an endurance ride midweek so were doing the unthinkable - three laps of the Three Horrible Hills loop on wednesday evening.
Anybody wanting to join us feel free - It's a 5.00pm start in order to finish before dark. It'll add up to about 60 miles and will be not far short of the amount of climbing on the ToSH Route. I know most people can't make a 5.00pm start but here's the beauty of it - as it's three laps we'll be passing GBs three times 5.00pm start, about 6.15pm (for lap 2) and 7.30pm (for lap 3) so if anyone's interested in riding our test lap feel free to join in for all or part of the ride. Turn up for the last lap only and we'll be so knackered after the first two you'll be able to kick our arses up all the hills!
The pace
We're going to be going quite steady because it's a tough loop - When we do one lap in under an hour its a killer so for three laps we're going to come off the pace and take it steady in order to survive - estimate finishing about 8.45. At time of writing the weather forecast is a balmy 23degrees.
So there you have it - a hilly endurance ride, midweek without going more than 10 miles out of Croydon. Impossible? Don't you believe it!
If anyone fancys coming, register your intent here. H
