Antivirus Software - Recommendations?

Postby Snoop Doug » Thu Aug 20, 2009 11:42 am

My new laptop came preloaded with McAfee. Is it any good? Seems to be so far I haven't caught internet lurgy. It's only valid until mid October then I either have to pay or bugger orf. So - anyone got any experience of others versus this one they'd care to share?

I had Norton on my old laptop and that seemed to be very heavy going, maybe that's the price you pay for protection, innit?

Cheers - Snoop

Thx Rob, what happens if it gets a hole in it tho..?

Also - McAfee are "offering" to extend by a year for £35 which doesn't seem too bad...does it? They reckon that's £15 off usual, and of course I have all day to think about that, grrrrr, don't rush me ya money grabbin gets

It is annoying, it's no more than a modern day protection racket and it's legal.

You're bank might arrange a discounted package if you do online banking, Barclays give a voucher for Kaspersky for free. Your service provider might also give a discount.

Yeah all right George

I did think aboot it, but in the end all my files, email stuff etc would have needed at least converting plus buying all new mac software and I just couldn't make it work. Hey ho, maybe another day eh?

After 2 years using AVG Free with no problems an update caused BSOD on my Acer laptop. A quick Google revealed lots of problems with AVG (both free and pay versions) on certain PCs, particularly Dells; seems it doesn't like some of the proprietary software they come installed with.

Now using Avast antivirus with a Comodo firewall and haven't had any problems.
