For me 2009 has been the year I have managed to stay fit for my longest period since breaking my knee playing rugby. After more time’s than I care to remember of getting my knee surgically shaven and many attempts to regain my running fitness I finally took the doctors advice to stay away from any form of sustained periods of running or other forms of impact to my knee. So you see cycling is as advised by my surgeon the best exercise for my type of knee injury :D

Highlights so far:
o Been able to ride with the ACC for the last 18 months…..regularly
o Completing the Dragon Ride and a few other Sportives
o Taking part in the London to Paris Great Ormond Street Children’s hospital charity bike ride. (Starting next Saturday 5th http://www.justgiving.com/robertquinn1 )

[quote="Sean Hogan - 何祥"]Riding outside my comfort zone has also been a consistent theme ever since agreeing to go racing in sub zero temps with Serge & Ant.

That was sure one coooooold day  Think I came 6th in that race, gave up trying to sprint as my back wheel was just slipping.

Highs- Has to be winning at Hillingdon plus the many great club runs I've had over the last few months.

Lows - Coming out of the winter feeling really strong only to see all my efforts wasted due to on-going problems with my knee which started in march but which Im hopefully getting sorted now.

Next year will be a different matter, having physio on my knee and just ordered a turbo trainer...yes I'm finally going to idugle in some proper training so watch this space . I've already lost weight and feel good about my riding at the moment despite my hiccup at CP last week. Its now or never really as I'll be 43 next spring and time isn't on my side.

Highs: Few and far between, totally dominating the 4th stage of the SERRL 3-Day in May and my team mate Josh winning. I worked so hard to control that race, to see your team mate and friend win, convincingly, is probably one of the most satisfying experiences ever. Now, the form I'm riding into, Belgie, Palace and then (finishing) the Richmond Grand Prix on Sunday, I'm not done yet.

Lows: Each and every one of the motorway miles I have munched this year to and from Premier Calendar's, National Champs, Elite Crits, Belgium etc etc, made worse by the usually standard kicking that is sustained at the other end!

well, 2009 has been a lost year for me, not for any particular reason, I just couldn't get motivated (lack of training => lack of results => loss of motivation or was it the other way round?). At the start of the year I enjoyed some of the MTB rides through the woods etc and hope to do more later in the year. I have also enjoyed the bit of track cycling I did at Herne Hill.

Actually I think my greatest pleasure from 'sports' has been swimming in the sea whilst on holidays, especially at St Malo in France, where it was a lovely sunny day with clear waters at just the right temperature.
