This Sunday I'm supposed to be doing my last TT but it's been a very long season and I'm knackered, so instead (weather permitting) I'm going to go for a nice steady lope instead.

- If anyone want's to join me then it'll be a 9am departure from GBs.
- Mainly B roads which hopefully won't have much traffic on them at this time of year and will save me have to think about where I'm going.
- Roughly 60 miles GBs - GBs.
- A bit lumpy/rolling in places but not what I'd call hilly.
- 18s riders should be okay.

I forgot to say in my original post......

General rule of thumb for a Sunday ride is:

No cafe stop, If there is I'll say, if I don't there isn't one .
No waiting, regroup at the top of notable hills but other than that if you're worried you might get dropped make sure you know how to get home - bring a map.

General idea of route is:
GBs-Crockham-Ashdown-Groombridge-Penshurst-Chartwell-Warlingham-GBs.

Excellent ride and thanks to Andrew for organising.
Usual Blair Witch/Dambusters format where a dozen or so set off from GBs and gradually get picked off. At last count we were 5, or four plus me drifting off the back and only catching up when everyone stopped and waited. By mile 45 I had no chance of keeping up so pootled along following signs to Westerham and Hever. Got to Four Elms, up Crockham Hill (first time I'd used the 30x25 since Hautacam at the end of 2008 etape), through Limpsfield and the run in to Titsey Hill. Legs had given up at this point so a quick U-ey on further reflection and back along the A25 to the neat little turn off just past the A22 roundabout. This leads to the private road through Woldingham School and cuts out any horrible climbing to get back to Croydon. Then up the A22 to Tesco, left into the sun, and down the A23 and home. Got in at 2, after 75 miles to ice cold beer, pot of tea, banana cake and devilled kidneys. Must be some protein in that lot.

With you all the way about that Woldingham School cut-through lane from A25 near A22, Dombo. From main road to main road near Caterham bypass roundabout (the eye-catching Ann Summers one), it's around 4 miles of traffic-free riding, private road but classed as a bridle path. Learnt about it on a ride with Pete Koz, used it this morning the other way. Enables me to avoid main roads virtually all the way from near Selsdon to Godstone (going straight across A25 and through Church Lane brings you out about half-mile south of Godstone). Definitely one for good-runs connoisseurs.

Great ride out today, as Dombo said we slowly whittled down the numbers untill I was left on my own for the last 7 miles or so back to Croydon then on back home, 72 miles in total door to door. Legs were in good order today and coped with the many drags and hills which Mr took us up. Must say a big thank you to Andrew for leading out yet another great ride with an equally great route. Cheers.

ps remember to lock up your bike when you pop into a field for a pee as some one (i.e , Ben and Graham 0) may see it as a chance to run off with your bike and try and hide it

I'll stick it in the routes section as well, it's a very easy course to follow with fairly few turns and if you make a note of a few place names then you can pretty much trace it from the road signs on the way. I finished the route at the base of Gravel Hill but for a Croydon return you could stay on the B269 through Warlingham and Sanderstead and drop in to South Croydon. Click on the Summary tab for a route profile.

The same distance as the Hell of Ashdown, and other local sportives, and similar, or not too far off, the total elevation gained in climbing. No need to spend £15-£20 to go for a ride.

A good mornings ride, I had my suspicions that I wouldn't last the course once I saw Ant on the ride but had a good ride all the same.
As Andrew said I lost contact just before cowden when Andrew put on a spurt to catch the others up and I failed to hold his wheel. Never mind I had a good backup route planned, turned off into cowden to dormansland (very scenic), Crowhurst across A22 Tilburston hill, Bletechingly, springbottom lane and to top it off White hill lane all the way up to Caterham.
Job done 50 agreeable miles on the clock.
