CR 30th January '10

Postby Keith » Sat Jan 30, 2010 8:03 am

For those of you up in the hot and steamy Cronx, it's currently -2°C with a fair dusting of snow in Hurst Green (East Surrey) .

I'd even put a new chain on my winter hack yesterday, ready for this morning's TG  .

Take care out there.

I think you incorrectly spelled Conor's name. I'm sure you meant my pimped up Conor.

It's -3.5 and covered in a thin layer of snow in Caterham. It should warm up later.

Suggestion: go for a run — on your two legs. I have just done so, and feel fine! :D

Not many turned up today... surprise surprise. Roughly 4 groups went out. A steady fast group, 2 medium speed groups and John C's aggreeable social group. Direct run down the A217 which was fine with a few patches of ice but nothing to bad. Got to Charlwood in super quick time and it must be the first time I have ever been first in the queue  .

As the weather had warmed up by 0.5 degree  we headed back on the reverse of the club run, some opted for box hill. Nice steady ride back with Monty, Amy, Sean, Phil, Peter, Mark and 1 or 2 others (apologies for not knowing your names) and a stop at Nona Rosa for a warm drink.
Amy got a text saying the fast guys had a fall?? :( I hope you are all ok and nothing serious.

We were making good progress and had opted to take the A23 and with Redhill a few miles behind us. The roads had been ok to this point. Glad to hear that the other groups went well and I hope the others in my group are ok – especially your knee Sylve ?

Glad to hear nothing to serious, bike parts and clothes can be replaced. Sounds like another one of those unlucky instances that caught you all by surprise. As you said the roads weren't too bad.

Well that was fun. One minute I'm leading Sylv, Rob W and Rogan down the A23, next thing I'm sliding down the road on my arse with the other 3 following my lead and hitting the deck, was almost synchronised falling off. Was the biggest patch of black ice I've ever seen. Worst to come out of it was Sylv, bit of road rash on his right leg and he knocked his knee which is worrying.

Can only apologise guys, feel responsible as I was leading and should have in hindsight pulled out into the road more to avoid it though was difficult to spot. Hope your all ok.

The ironic part is that the roads where clearing up nicely the further we got into the road.

Oh and before anyone starts preaching about ice, road conditions etc save your breath, its all been said before.

Yep Rob, just an unlucky accident, can happen anytime this time of year be it cycling, walking or driving, just takes one small patch of ice and that's it, down you'll go. Even cars where slipping on it.

Very noble of you Ant but no apology required. It wouldn't have mattered who was leading. No harm done.
