Cycling Active magazine needs YOU!

Postby huw williams » Wed Aug 18, 2010 7:44 pm

Did you see that article on-line and in the Guardian about MAMILs? (Middle Aged Men In Lycra).

The gist of it was that more and more middle aged riders are prepared to spend vastly greater amounts of money on their bikes than they are prepared to spend on time riding them. So cycling has a growing demographic of men over 45 riding around in full Rapha or Assoss kit on bikes which cost over £3,500 yet they never do anything more serious than a club run or the odd local sportive.

So is this accurate? More importantly is this YOU!

If you think it is, I want you for a feature in Cycling Active magazine - a real tongue in cheek affair on the lines of a Top Gear feature. The theme is, "are MAMILs the new MLCs" (Mid Life Crisis) - has the £5k Pinarello and Matching lycra replaced the menopausal mid-life sports car and ripped jeans. - You'll get to pose with your bike and a Porsche for the feature, and also get to try three of the most expensive bikes on import in the UK (which will be tested as part of the feature).

Most important of all - you'll get your chance to justify to the world why you spend ££££££££s on your bike and kit and rarely ride it further than Charlwood on a saturday morning in the 18s :-)

So if you think that's you, you're over 45 and have a bike which would put most of the Tour riders to shame, PM me with some details and we'll get things moving - three riders in total required please.

I thank you...

Nice to hear, less racing and a lot more "riding a lot" for me for the first half of next year. Although I expect we'll meet in the early hours of the odd morning wearing funny clothing and a twat hat.

MAMIL? Not me, unfortunately. Bike only cost £500. And the M would be O for me ... But who cares?

You also overshoot the criteria because your use of the Colnago is commensurate with the money you paid for it, so you're a 'proper' cyclist and therefore not suitable

I could pose as a non-doer but I am understandably lycra shy for the camera. Although I wouldn't dare to suggest others I would be interested in leaked lists!
