Not quite sure he is out. At this point in time he is only 8 seconds away from the Yellow Jersey..........make of it what you will they have 51k left.....9 minutes and 2 seconds lead.

That's exactly what I was thinking. How can someone suffer so much one day suddenly put 6 mins+ into his rivals the next? I could've understood it more if there'd been a rest day in between. Must have been some massage he had on Wednesday night!

I really don't want to be cynical and hope that it was just great riding but think it's a strange situation.

Christophe Moreau obviously had his doubts as well.

Un-natural or not you've really got to look at the performance of Sastre and Pereiro who just sat back and watched their tour hopes virtually go down the pan.

CSC manager Barmy Riis said "It was down to Pereiro's team to chase Landis 'cos they had the Yellow jersey to defend."

Tell that to Sastre if he gets whupped by Landis in the TT tomorrow!

Bjarne Riis....?I?m a bit disappointed that Landis was allowed to take so much time, but then we expected him to fade more than he did at the end. It?s difficult to explain how he came back after what happened yesterday?maybe Landis should explain.?

Perhaps Landis put in a couple of extra hours training after Alp d'huez - like footballers do when they need to impress their managers!

In the current climate you can understand the cyncism. But couldn't you equally argue that when those guys saw Landis suffering the day before they put in some real hard efforts to distance themselves from him. Hence yesterday Sastre and the GC gang didn't quite have the legs. PLEASE MAKE THIS BE THE CASE, ANOTHER HIGH PROFILE RIDER SUSPECTED OF DRUG TAKING JUST DOESN'T BARE THINKING ABOUT!

I doubt Pereiro has a good enough team to seriously chase down Landis.

Maybe Phonak have developed a hearing aid that can listen in to other peoples hearing devices, so Landis can hear all the race instructions going to the other teams:

e.g. CSC team, "Landis is up the road, let him have his fun, he will be out the back in half an hour so slow down."

Landis carries on at steady pace and takes the stage. The commentators were talking yesterday that maybe he only had a bit of sunstroke, does sunstroke make you bonk?, if so then fair enough. But if you bonk on one day does it necessarily effect you the next? Surely if you have enough food etc and prepare very well, and look after yourself, e.g. pour two hundred litres of water over your head you will be fine.

p.s. Next week I have a race lined up, anyone fancy driving a car next to me and showering me with water, last night I bonked in the Handicap and that was about 30km, eeek. I finished about 10 mins down.

The comments about sunstroke seemed to make a bit of sense as fluid/sugar/salt levels could be topped up again overnight. It still makes for a very quick recovery but then pro cyclist have always recovered quickly from stomach bugs so...
I also never noticed him drowning himself on previous hot days so maybe he was underestimating the effect of the heat. As a fellow ginger I can vouch for feeling the heat and suffering if I don't drink plenty of water.
Did they have any room for spare wheels in the Phonak car as the amount of space taken up by bidons must have been amazing.
They've just said that today's stage is being run in a temperature of 39/40c! Needless to say Flandis is continuing to chuck buckets of water over his head.

They should employ the French Gendarme to use one of their many Water Cannons, they must be pretty skilled at using them now with all the riots and strikes the froggies seem to have.

Cheers
