i like those videos.,

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D-KueBsU ... ed&search=

here is my favourite one, it gave me almost all of inspiration to start cycling when i first saw it....and stick to it...when im in pain, muscles screaming etc, or about to take a hairy corner, i just try to think of it and realise i got nothing on them !:P

also if anyone watches it can you tell me...the chap in yellow lying on the floor, from what looks like the 60s odd...is that tommy simpson the one that died on the mountain?

I think the rider in yellow was Luis Ocana. It was in the 1971 Tour. He crashed on the Col de Mente, while locked in a great battle with Eddie Merckx, Ocana defending the Maillot Jaune. It was in pouring rain; Ocana might have got back on, but was very badly injured when Zoetemelk crashed into him. At the stage finish, Merckx refused to wear the jersey he'd taken from Ocana, in this manner, very sporting.
The other rider is Stephen Roche, almost out through oxygen debt after chasing the M. J. Pedro Delgado up Alpe d'Huez in 1987. Roche had to wait 4 more days to win back the Jersey and take the Tour.

There's a long section about the Merckx/Ocana Tour rivalry in the DVD I won, those were some epic fights. Ocana commited suicide in his forties.

I can lend the Merckx DVD to whoever's interested, if you can stomach b/w cycling footage set to a cheap techno soundtrack and approximative subtitles!

Well they do also share the same first name and surname initial! We ratified John's entry form at the ACC committee meeting on Monday, so he's in now.

Cheers for the Sufjan clip, Sylv - like him a lot but hadn't seen that before.

One good turn deserves another, I reckon - here's something quite closely related:
