George Brent in Hospital Following Racing Accident

George was unfortunately involved in a nasty accident on the final stage of the Surrey League Army CU 3-Day today and is currently in hospital.

His prognosis is good (the initial medical assessment is that he should make a full recovery) - but he appears to have a compression fracture to two vertebrae in his upper back / neck. At the moment, it's not clear what, if any, further medical intervention he will need. He is expected to be in hospital for several days and will need to wear a neck brace for several weeks upon being discharged.

He is currently in Mayday - but expects to be moved elsewhere (I think he said to St. George's) shortly.

Apologies if the details are sketchy - but I've only had the briefest of phone discussions with him this evening to a mobile in a poor reception area.

I'll put some more details of the accident in a post on the racing forum. However, I'm sure like me you will all wish George a speedy and successful recovery and look forwards to seeing him giving it large on the bike before too long.

George, very very sorry to hear this. I've been reading all your recent race reports yesterday and constantly astounded by them 9if only by the fact you found the energy to write them after a hard day of racing).

Hope you recover soon and as Tony says "look forward to seeing you giving it large on the bike", and especially that you can make it early enough for the cyclocross season which I know you were looking forward to.

The "results" forum is going to look empty here for a little while that's for sure.

Just spoken to George's dad at Mayday.
George is due to be transferred shortly to St George's for an operation, and will be around eight weeks recovering.
I told him of the response from everyone and our hopes for a full and speedy recovery.
