Attention all Ladies (and Gentlemen of a certain age)
Jack n' Jill
The 24th June is the date for the annual Jack n' Jill Time Trial. For those that don't know it is a 10 mile time trial run in the same way as the Evening 10s(7:45pm start at Holmwood course). The difference is that it is run as a 2-up where the lady(Jill) is towed round the whole course by a pacer(Jack) . She gets to sit on his wheel all the time protected from the elements and shout abuse or encouragement as is deemed fit . In other words ladies he has to ride to the pace you want, shout at him to make him go faster .
It is a good fun event. You want to pick a pacer who is faster than you for the obvious reason that he will be battling in to the wind while you are towed round at a faster than normal pace sitting in a little bubble of tranquility.
Tamar and Jon will be able to help out with advice on what sort of speed pacer you should have. If you let them know either your PB if you have one, or which group you normally ride in on a CR then they will be able to match you up with someone suitable - bit like blind date isn't it . Only joking, you can of course pick your own Jack but it does work a lot better if they are faster than you.
It would be fantastic to get as many of the lady club members as possible out for this, even if you only do one event in the year, this one's good fun.
Prospective Jacks also need to volunteer their services - please form an orderly queue to tow a nice lady round the course.
Gentleman's GP
As a bonus for this year rather than just have people ride solo if they don't have a partner for the Jack n' Jill, we'll also run a Gentleman's Grand Prix. This follows the same format as the Jack n' Jill except that the Jill is replaced by a veteran (over 40 years old). So basically if you are over 40 and want some young whippet to tow you around the course while you shout at them.... Same tactic for picking a pacer, but help and advice is on hand if you need assistance or just want to play lucky dip and see who you get.
Again this is great fun - I pace my Dad in the Redmon GP at the end of the year, and other club senior superstars John Lovell and Jim "The Legend" also enjoy getting a tow round in it.
There will also be the opportunity to ride solo if you have no Jill or Gentleman, but as a one off it is much better if we can see how many pairing we can get and have a real fun event rather than worrying about PBs.
I've put this here to get more people see it than if it was in the Racing section. Please can someone give it a promo at the cafe tomorrow.
Thanks.
Andrew.
