Addiscombe Track Championships Saturday September 13th

Postby Mark Leedham » Wed Jul 23, 2008 5:42 pm

The 2008 Addiscombe Track Championships (held in conjunction with the BEC and the DeLaune) will be at Herne Hill Stadium on Sat 13th September, 14.00hr start.

This should leave plenty of time to get back from the President's 10 which starts at 10:00.

Given that this Saturday (30th) may be fine it would be a great time for aspiring trackies to do an induction session. I think they begin around 9 and you can hire bikes but probably would want to bring pedals. I am planning an appearance - anyone else?

If anyone wants to attend an induction session priot to Septemver 13th - here are the details:

VC Londres Track Training

Stage 2 Novice & Youth 09:00 to 10:30 Gentle riding & races for the young & the less fit.
Stage 3 Skills Training 10:30 to 11:45 Bunch riding, skills training & taking part in training races.
Stage 4 Fitness Training 11:45 to 13:00 Training races & exercises to improve speed & fitness.

Adults £3

U16 £2 for one stage. Free bike hire.

Adults £6
16-17 £3
U16 £2 for two or more stages. Free bike hire.

No membership fees apply & you do not have to be a member of VC Londres to participate.

Experienced riders generally take part in both stages 3 & 4. However, ALL riders who have never attended Herne Hill training sessions MUST do the Stage 1 Induction before progressing to the other stages. For most experienced riders this should be an easy reminder of track etiquette, along with other aspects that can differ between tracks.

Yes, come on guys and girls, its good fun and once you've done the induction, you can ride in the ACC Track Champs on the 13th :D . And don't give me any of that "I cant do it cos I'm riding in the Presidents 10 is on that morning". There's plenty of time to get to Herne Hill after. I'll have my van with me, so I can take at least 5 other bikes in the back, no excuses.

Just to add, the hire of the bikes at the track is free, zero, 0, nothing :D , so no excuses there either. Cost of induction is £3 though.

So see you all tomorrow at HH at 8.30 then. Well maybe I wont be there that early as I've already done the induction 8)

Mark,

Do you know what events there will be in the track championship? I know we have club trophies for a scratch race and sprints (mens, ladies, & juniors), is there anything else on?

Just wondering if I need to sort out different stuff for pursuiting.

Very nice Mark, but I have much nicer ones in my collection of 1840 Penny Blacks :)

Well said Steve, a fine rallying call to the troops. Indeed it is a poor excuse as I too will be riding the President's 10 in the morning and then going to Herne Hill, no van, no space for others though I'm afraid.

Steve, it's all very well taking their bikes - but what about the riders? I hate to say this but your offer of help is, well, not very helpful. How do they get from Dorking to HH?

It was a nice sunny day at the track. I was impressed with Bridget's all-season hire bike. At £35 it is a pretty cheap option and you get a bike set up to your spec with pedals on when you arrive We did the usual training stuff and then We split into 3 group and I tried out in the fast group but fell off the back after 6 laps. The next time I was in the medium group and the pace was OK. Steve got a couple of second places in the fast group and Bridget improved her technique of riding in the group. Rob was doing it for the first time and seemed to enjoy the experience. We saw Maria and met a young man called Edmund who promised to join ACC.

All in all a pretty good morning - maybe next week is your last chance for induction and tomorrow there is an event and there may be a go-ride race for non-BC members, but probably a good thing to go and watch if you have time.

cheers

Sorry  .

Sounds like a good day Alan, when I saw the weather I though HH would be nice - sun, not a lot of wind. Good to hear about Bridget too, can give Tamar some competition for the women's prizes at the champs this year.

That wass pretty good. I've been meaning to get up there on a Saturday for a while now and when prompted by Alan's message in the week I thought I'd give it a go.

I got to HH at about 8:50 and this is what I saw:

Most of the peope in the queue where I was were parents that seemed to fancy a go having bought their kids out for the day. I asked a VCL guy if I was going to get a ride and he said no but hand in your form and you won't have to wait next time. After a while another guy shouted out that they had about 6 large bikes left that would be suitable for taller riders. Before he finished his sentence I made a sneaky move up the right hand side and got to the signign on table and then bike locker thing to pick up the very last bike. I think that was the last bit of overtaking I did all day. As for the bike, frankly I've seen better but at least I got a ride which is more then a lot of the people who were in the queue can say.

The VCL guys are really good and the sessions are very well organised. I'd reccomend it, there are more sessions during the week and they have an off road race on Wednesday night that I might have a go at.

I was working this saturday AM so couldn't make the induction at HH and judging by the crowds I am almost glad. I popped along to the track after work and chatted to a very helpful VCL guy and they are doing some induction/training sessions on Monday nights starting this Monday at 6PM (get there for 17.45 if poss). After seeing the Good Friday meet there I have been fancying a go but the inductions clashed with the Club Runs so this is perfect - get trained on a Monday (and maybe get a few other sessions in) then ready for the Club Track meet.
