Well first post from someone who actually did the whole CR after 10 posts then .

Easy spin in the 17s, nice ride out although a bit twitchy in a couple of places due to one or two riders probably close to their limits in the group.

Great to catch up with Adrian again after soooooo long (and so many sleepless nights for one of us), can't believe Albert's 9 months old already.

Cup of tea and a bacon sarnie for breakie and then went outside to try and catch the first group off so I could get back fairly early. Catch became the key word as by the time I'd extricated my bike they were up the road. Oh well, bit of a blast to catch up and then just sat on the back having a chat with Ben.

After the church had a bit of a spin up Merstham as Mr. Avery was feeling lively today and then back to the homestead.

What smashing weather, I think Alex must have stuck in his suitcase when he came back from Mallorca. Thanks .

Good luck to Bridget, Chloe, and any others kicking off their season tomorrow in the women's race at Chertsey, weather looks good again.

Good run today but a bit dodgy coming back, I think I was in the first group to go back (with Alex P) and we hit a very weathered road - potholes everywhere. 3 people came down just infront of me when someone swerved inwards to avoid a pot, but luckily no serious damage, either to bikes or riders.

It seems a lot of people got punctures today so our 17 group was more like a 15. I think a lot of the roads are in bad shape from the severe cold from the previous few weeks. A couple of first timers got dropped after a puncture which was a shame, I hope that doesn't put them off completely. (Loads of people stopped to help but they had 26" wheels... asking for trouble IMO!).

Good fun anyway. Turned out very warm and sunny, which probably explains the massive turnout - we had 3 groups of 17s!

3 puncures in 95km!!! Time for new tyres me thinks... Hmm.

First outing after a long spell of sitting on my butt doing nothing. Knew it was going to be painful and it was. Didn't help that I ended up falling off my bike thanks to a pile up!!! Couldn't believe it, thought I'd avoided the falling off weather and down I go on a beautiful sunny day!!!!! Ho hum!!!! Alls ok. Enjoyed the ride and the gossip. Out next week and if not you can tell my mum

A number of 17 groups today, so I think we went out in the 3rd from CSS. Before we hit the Reigate steps we had 2 stops for 1 puncture and 1 tube that needed a top up. With folks returning after a few weeks off, the pace was always a little slower to keep all in check. With the stop start at the beginning and the slow pace the legs never seemed to get flowing. Had to get back early, so headed back with Alex P and a few others on the reverse route. After a steady pace heading home and as some have already explained a pot hole was called and the next thing I heard a few go down behind me. Thankfully Carole and John were not seriously hurt. Carole seemed to get a bang to her leg and John took a wallop to the head on landing and also to his wrist. Thankfully his helmet took the impact and he has the cracks to prove it. I would hate to imagine what would have happened if he had not had a helmet on.
Although an indifferent ride, the sun was out and the company was as pleasant as usual.

Not a great CR for me. Good steady ride down in the 17s, enjoying the sunshine, but got caught up in the pile up on the journey home. The rider next to me went down and I got taken down in a domino like fashon!
I went down hard on my back and smacked the back of my head on the tarmac, as Rob mentioned, I hate to think what state I would be in if I wasn't wearing a helmet! The helmet now has several large cracks around the back of it.

I didn't think I was too badly injured to begin with, but the pain in my wrist got much worse as I neared home. A trip to my local A&E confirmed that I have fractured wrist and have a fracture in one of the bones in my arm near my elbow

I now have a plaster cast on my arm and will probably end up with an even bigger cast when I attend the Fracture Clinic on Monday. Not the greatest cycling accessory! It looks like I will be out of action for the next six weeks.

Many thanks to everyone who helped me out today, picking me up, patching my bike up and waiting for me on the hills.

Sorry to hear about the wrist. 6 weeks for a fracture seems like quite a long estimate, I'm sure you will be back on the bike in half that time.

I hope you aren't left handed.

Helmet = win. Definitely get a new helmet but keep the old one as a spare if its just cracks and the helmet is less than 2 years old. bin it if the polystyrene has been compressed anywhere or its older than 2 years, as polystyrene degrades and becomes uncompressible after a while (which is a bad thing).

Ouch! Sounds painful - here's hoping a speedy recovery.

First CR since early December for Sam and I. Good to see all the old faces and have a chat. hardly ridden at all this winter so opted for a 16 mph group. Chloe (perhaps she just doesn't feel the cold) took charge. lots and lots of Johns in the group, good fun, good easy pace, good company, one puncture in the group, lovely weather. WOW!!!

went home with the group via Box Hill.

Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. 90+ kms roughly as my sensor on my computer packed up . 300 kms for the week - gradually getting back into it.
