calling all you racer types

I am putting together a full-on coaching session for either this coming weekend or next.

As a Prime coaching session it is open to anyone not just ACC and is
for all categories. From cat 4 through 1.

the aim of the session is a pre season warm up and skills session as most of you will be doing your first races of the season in March.

this is a great opportunity to sort out your bunch sprinting skills, bridging gaps, making break aways and making the most of bunch riding at a race pace. Even if you think you know all there is to know, you will still get some quality practice time and a really good workout.

these are the kind of skills you will rarely get to practice anywhere effectively other than during a race.

i need a minimum of 10 people for this (max 27), so firstly I want to know who's interested and which saturday is best: 21st or 28th FEB
if I have good numbers I will get another coach along from Prime.

the venue is to be decided in the next couple of days, but will be local and a fast non stop circuit.

so send me your names and lets see what you are made of.

I'm definitely up for this... no idea what your e-mail is, though, so hopefully you'll see this.
I can do this Saturday (which is 21st, not 22nd) but I can't do the following Saturday.
My e-mail is ps@dalmatia.fsnet.co.uk

I'm a total rookie, but really want to race.

Keith Butler told me that the Surrey League are running coaching 'races' at Hillingdon on the 21st, 28th of feb and 6th of march. They will hold training sesions (how to go 'through and off' etc) and then hold a 20 lap beginners race.

Maybe Jayne you would like to get involved with that? You could teach them how to pass batons.

im going over there as well, thats mainly for those who want to "dabble" at racing for the first time.
the session Ive planned is for slightly more advanced racers, those who've raced before or those pretty confident already.

chances are I will do the Prime coaching session in the morning near croydon then head off to hillingdon in the afternoon for the surrey league stuff.

the baton training has already been done at Hillingdon as I introduced it some time ago. it promotes spacial awereness and communication through a group. as well as keeping the group formation tight.

im spending the next 2 days away from work to sort out a decent circuit for the race based coaching session.

So your session is no good for a rookie like me then, Jane?

phil, as long as you are confident on a bike and among a fairly close bunch you will be fine.
there are a few who want to race but still cant do the close group work and it might be a bit dangerous to throw them in amongst the fray.. so to speak.

dont worry if you are a so called rookie, as long as you intend on racing this will be of great benefit to you and will be a fun experience.. as well as a good gauge of your ability so far.

Is this likely to come up again in the near future?

I have family commitments I can't ignore and hence will miss this :-( In fact no weekend cycling for two weeks, double drat!!!

right then, after exhaustive searches of the width and breadth of Surrey i have a list of possible circuits that can be used for training and practice races.

The first circuit will be the Horne evening handicap circuit. (see attached map for course details)
meet at the entrance to the golf course at 10am Saturday 28th Feb
programme of the session:
* initial warm up with through and off.
* split into 2/3 groups, 1st group set off, followed by 2nd group 30 seconds later. 2nd group to bridge the gap. once both groups rejoin, repeat swapping groups around.
depending on level of ability, increase/decrease gap time to give everyone a chance to work to their max on catching a group and sticking with them.
* Sprints. 3 sprints per lap, using coloured ground markers as guidance for gear selection, sprint start and finish. working through gears systematically to find optimum sprint gear individually. also working on technique for sprint launch.
* 3 lap (practice) race ( 1st 2 laps working at race pace through and off, final lap, eyeballs out for a sprint finish)

this should tax even the hardest of you who want to do it. Id like to invite riders from other clubs along, so all are welcome.

the first date available for this is sat 28th feb... although 6th march is also available. I have a good few names already down for this, but I would like more. The more riders the better.

any questions just drop me a line at: miss.moneypenny@ukgateway.net
or call me: 07770 437267

look forward to seeing you there.

cheers

JT

6th March sounds perfect for me. If it is confirmed for the 6th I will be there.

Thanks.

Can't do either of those dates - doing the Surrey League beginner races @ Hillingdon, which I've had in my diary for ages.
I'll get the same outcome, (racing skills) and I'm keen to support Keith Butler who has had a lot of time for me, and women's racing in general.

Hopefully, this kind of clash of similar training sessions within similar catchment areas won't regularly....
