[quote="Alex P"]Snoop,

I am CRB checked for the work that I do at my kids school, I wonder whether what we do as a club would need a different check?

Daft though it sounds, I do think you need a new CRB for each distinct activity. I'll keep diggin

[quote="kieran"]give the lib dems a chance! :wink:

I will be anyway as I can't vote for Labour as they currently are and I really don't think the Tories are the answer either.

They get my vote - always have. Check out our local (Carshalton) MP, Tom Brake. He's a good un, not perfect but I think he focusses on the right things for the right reasons. He has integrity.

[quote="Roy Green"]It's a waste of time even considering this lunacy putative legislation. It would not come into operation until Nov 2010. Well before then, this imbecile Labour government will have been kicked far into touch.

Disgusted of Tunbridge Wells ...

Steady on Roy! Politics apart (and it should be for the purposes of a cycling forum) the proposed arrangements seek to coordinate existing information around child protection and add some further safeguards. As ever it serves the interests of the pundits against regulation and for selling newspaper copy to hype this up.

Child protection is a complicated and fraught area of legislation and regulation but it is salutary to remember that by far the greatest majority of offences are committed by those known to children and young people and often go undetected. That said, it is likely that more will be spelt out in guidance and voluntary organisations will have opportunity to voice their concerns and render such guidance helpful and reasonable.

Those cyclists that put their faith in the words of dear Matthew Parris have very short memories indeed!
