I don't have much to add other than sympathy and to ask whether they were covered under an insurance policy? Either a specific bike policy or via household goods?

thanks folks, all these responses are one of the kind things we do very well around here, much obliged.

The bikes were in my bike shed, out the back. The side gate is kept padlocked as is the shed. There was a thing in our local newsletter last year about shed theftage but hey, you always think it won't happen to me eh? The police have been round and understandably aren't too confident about finding anyone, though of course these bikes are somewhat unusual. The fingerprint person is round tomorrow...

...then the insurance assessor on Monday. It's a good job that for x years I've been paying an extra premium to cover my bikes as the normal household cover with my lot is £1000 max per bike. I have £2,600 per bike which they no longer offer to new customers. I have photos of the bikes plus receipts for everything that was stolen except for the 2nd hand Corima wheels I got from Doug Rollins. Monday will be an interesting test of customer service - watch this space.

Hey snoop like everyone else I'm pissd off that scum like this are able to do this to people.
I'm sure everyone who has left comments will keep an eye out for these. They are after all not hour normal common cycle.

The assesors are generally very understanding and understand your pain. Their main role is to confirm it isn't an inside job.

I can't imagine brick Lane would be much of a go-er. I can't believe anyone would try and shift a TT bike and disc wheel there and find a willing buyer. They are more likely to appear on ebay with the usual selling on behalf of a friend so I don't know much about it blurb combined with some very iffy descriptions.

You do have to wonder though what sort of person would buy a TT bike/frame/wheel off someone who clearly doesn't know anything about it or its provenance. The people who nick the stuff are grade A scum, but the people who buy it off them are maybe grade B scum.

So far so good. The guy from more than was excellent this morning. Very understanding, has confirmed all OK with the policy and asked me to get replacement quotes sorted. Keep you posted but so far I'm very happy with the way they are dealing with this. I'm still quite shaken by the sense of intrusion, grrrrrrrr
