[quote="marco"]To be honest I don't think they are practical - you'll want brakes front and back , which will suddenly spoil the 'clean' lines but which will help you not die when things go wrong at high speed. And you'll want wider bars so you can breathe properly through your chest when riding fast, the narrow bars are restrictive. Basically if you want a fixed you might as well just get a Pista.

I'm intending on having a back brake.

I'm not intending to do high speed... and i won't be riding "fast" on this...

I probably will only ever use this locally as an errand kinda bike... Whats a Pista? Condor? Bianci?

kids these days! :)

Personally I think it's a shame converting it to a fixie. Clean it up, strip it down, service everything that can be serviced replace anything that's really broken preferably with something that matches. The cruise around in glorious retro.

Whilst i see it as being a shame, its a little too rusty to just clean up, and then its missions to get decals and all the bits to "restore" and its not something special.
I'm not intending to grind up the frame so it could go back to what it was... but it needs a lick of paint!

Take the old one out, plonk it on the counter at a bike shop and ask for one to replace it.

Fair enough. :)
If you take out the existing BB it might be marked with sizing. I've got an old Italian thread dura-ace BB lying around doing nothing.

Start with some skinny-fit jeans, get some knuckle tattoos and take it from there   .

Silly go faster stickers removed from cheapo wheels (i know they are cheap rims/hubs and i paid cheap for them, but i hope they are not made of cheese!)

After 2 hours one handed buffing... bored now.
