Laras Mum's place is live in Teseguite, which is a village about 3kms from the old capital Teguise which is roughly in the centre of the island- you should be able to locate it on Google. I am still not certain where I will stay. A

Teseguite is pretty small and off the beaten track. From what I've seen when I've ridden through it there wouldn't be much in the way of nightlife. OK for a get away from it all self catering family holiday, but IMO one of the coastal resorts would be better for a group of party animal cyclists.

Hi Mark, good news - I have seen about 5 expressions of interest but so far none firm enough for me to be certain. Your company would be very welcome.

Cheers

Alan

We're just waiting for some more information from you

Well, we know you're into dancing on tables and letting it all hang out, Jon, but I like a bit of peace and quiet at night

I have downloaded a bunch of Murice BUrton's Garmin rides and Los Zocos seems to usual point of departure, so if there is a group maybe locate ourselves around there?

I am very keen on the idea. I've not done this before though. What do people normally do? Book accommodation/flights separately on the interwebs and hope it will be OK to take a bike box? Go to a travel agent? Book a package?

I feel like such an ignorant n00b.

Book the same flights, or close to, or when you can go and hook up with others. I should get the okay at work tomorrow and will book the same flights as you then Alan.

Book Easyjet and you pick flights, then add a bag on the next page, then sports equipment and pick bike on the next page, then give them money, simples :D .

For accomodation it's just a case of picking the hotel and everyone book independently, find the best price you can on interweb as it depends what you want...box room or penthouse suite. Anyone know any reasonable hotels in the area Alan mentions? I'll have a google tomorrow and see what I can see there and what the reviews are like. There's a few training camps use Lanzarote so should be plenty of cyclists hotel reviews about.

I'm in the same boat as Phil on this - I don't make a habit of travelling abroad, even less travelling on my own. Did try it once to get to Mallorca but it all went kind of pear-shaped due to circumstances so a bit apprehensive about trying again.

Los Zocos that Alan mentions is basically at the resort of Costa Teguise, which is where I've stayed. I've been four times and stayed at four different hotels (or Aparthotels as they call them in Lanzarote) which have all been quite similar. They tend to have a reception area / dining room / bar in one building, which you go through to get to the pool area / gardens etc. Then around that area are several buildings typically up to 3 stories high where the rooms are. The rooms usually have a bedroom, bathroom, and a small kitchenette / lounge area, and a balcony. Good when you've got a bike with you as there's a bit more space than a regular hotel room; also good for cat-swinging if you feel that way inclined.

"Lanzarote Gardens" was the handiest for strolling in to town.
"Lanzarote Bay" was good for face-stuffing as it was all inclusive.
"Barcelo" was too far out of town, as was another one that I can't remember the name of.

Flights booked, same as Alan so we can tear each others legs off up the hills even if no-one else comes :) .

Thanks for the hotel info Jon, looking at the web Lanzarote Gardens looks good and being a nice stroll distance from town is very good as I don't want to be tied to a hotel location and have a choice of dining places. Lanzarote Bay looks a similar price and Los Zocos a bit cheaper.

If this link works ([url=http://www.firstchoice.co.uk/accom/page/search/dlresults.page?subtype=SUN|1&subtypeId=SUN&departureDate=2012-2-7&duration=7&tuiCtryCode=CMS227&tuiDestCode=000329&tuiResortCode=000321&tuiAccomCode=032405&rating=0&numberOfRooms=1&numAdults=1&numChildren=0&childInfantAges=0&ib_id=First%20Choice&im_id=Paid%20Links&ip_id=Hotels&is_id=trip%20advisor&it_id=doubleclick&ir_id=032405]click[/url]) then for 7 nights it's basically:
Los Zocos £320
Lanzarote Gardens £381
Lanzarote Bay £357 (Think Maurice and co stay here when they do a training camp from what I can see)
Prices obviously will vary depending on when booked and through whom and the euro rate.

I'd be happy to go with any of the above but would have 1st choice as 'Gardens from Jon's comments and a couple of others I've seen online, with 'Bay as second choice as if Maurice is a regular then it will be a decent place. Whichever, it's between say £45 and £55 a night for an apartment type room which I'd be happy with.

Thoughts from anyone else whose been to any of the hotels/ is booking flights? Makes sense to stay in the same place, although none look too far from t'other.

Thanks Andrew, Received this from Maurice - it is self-explanatory, I am not sure if this is a discounted price but will do some searching on line, - I will close down the thread on FB as it is too complicated - all discussions now HERE!

Hi Alan,

We use Lanzarote Bay Hotel.

http://www.lanzarote-tour.com/lanzarote ... te_bay.php

I can arrange a package including transport from the airport to the hotel, and back, all inclusive for £400.00.

We have used Los Zocos, when the Lanzarote Bay was being refurbished, but found them less accomidating.

Kind regards

Maurice

I'm not on Facebook so it didn't get complicated for me :) .

Maurice's deal sounds good as the prices I saw were £350-360 but would need to arrange transfers/cab on top of that. If it was arranged through Maurice, if he is happy to do so, then as he' a regular at the hotel we would probably be better dealt with than "flying blind".

I'll check if the week is available in February and then I'll be up for Maurice's all-in package. Nice to be all in the same hotel - makes life easier. Single room for me please - I suppose that'll be extra - unless another girl is going who wants to share or I find a bloke I want to share with (and reciprocates - ooh there goes a flying pig  )

Daft question but does that include flights?

No.

Flights are about £250 with a bag in the hold and a bike.
