A Voice Through the Clouds by Denton Welch. You'll need to be in robust psychological condition to read it, though - very, very few chuckles.

A recommendation in the very loosest sense.

That's one that is definately on my list. I've got the fixed just need to swap the 48 chainring for a 58 and I'll be ready :D .

I have just got my hands on ; Pedalare Pedalare ! History of Italian cycling and, How I won the Yellow Jumper by Ned Boulting.. Both of these get pretty good reviews on Amazon ( good price on Amazon for them as well ), going to take one of them with me to Ireland for Chrimbo...

Just started "The Rider" by Tim Krabbe. Very good.
He also wrote "The Vanishing", which was made into a particularly chilling film
