ACC Rider down

Hi Gavin,

I am very sorry to hear about your accident. You take care and take your time getting back on the bike. Don't rush the healing process.

Your accident sounds like the one Emma Davies (GB squad track cyclist) had last year. Although she was out of action for a while, once she got back on the bike she did a storming ride at the world championships. So there is hope.

Anyway, all the best and keep your chin up.

Maria

P.S - Nice to hear from you Carly - hope you are ok

Hope your back out soon mate.

Just remember to claim whiplash, that'll get you a nice payout!

Hmmm think of the new bike you could get!

I resisted the temptation to claim that after my car accident in the summer. Though the student loan is fast running out... so, oooh, i think that was my back, better get down the doctors sharpish!

Gavin Update

Postby carley » Wed Dec 06, 2006 9:35 am

Hello

I have been to see Gavin yesterday evening, he is recovering well, he cant sit up yet, so he is laying down. He had a measurement for his back brace, Hopefully later this week we might know when he will be home

He has fractured the 7th Vertibrate on his spine, However he can move his legs, arms and neck.

In relation to the state of his bike, the back wheel is buckled and the bike is at the police station, that is all that Gavin can remember.

He is in University Hospital Lewisham, and in Cedar Ward. Visiting hours are 3pm to 8pm. I see you all then.

Regards

Carley

Hello

Just another update regarding Gavin's recovery.

He is doing well, we are just waiting for the back brace to be made, then once he has got that he will have some physiotherapy to try and build up his strength, as he still cant sit up.

The ward he is in is very good as it was only opened a few days ago.

I will try and update the forum daily on Gavin progress

Thanks again everyone for you get well messages.

I went to see Gav last night and chatted with him for a few hours, he looked quite tired but was looking forward to being up and about. As far as i know he has a damaged 7th vertebrae- so a few higher could have meant a wheelchair  . He has been flat out on his back since last monday morning and they are hoping to fit the brace today and get him up. It may be at least six weeks before it comes off, then he is going to have some physio. Hopefully Carly will ring me or post on the forum to let us know how things are going.
I must admit i hate going to hospitals or even the doctors and when things like this happen it really makes you think.

I have just heard that Gav was able to walk about this afternoon after his brace was fitted. Carly said he was going to buy beers all over xmas for everyone!(not)
I hope to see him before xmas and will try to persuade him to have an ale or two in the croydon area.
FWIW- he told me that he had a backpack on,and that he landed on it and it could be a pissabolity that it was a whiplash type of injury, so just be careful out there  .
Carley and Gav would like to thank all those that have posted and visited for their concern and support- not forgeting Gavs pa who has come from scotland.

PS thanks to JESS who is always in attendance.

Fantastic news :D glad you're now up and on your feet. Hope it's in club colours, although coming from Holland maybe Rabobank.
