So, who's up for wheelbuilding this Wednesday?

Anybody got a set of components they want to use for the demo?

Or should I bring the badly built (by somebody else) wheel I've got and want to rectify?

Hey Graham I'm looking forward to Wednesday,

In my accident I didn't damage my wheels so maybe you'll have to bring your one.

Sean, we'll use yours as part of the session. I'm planning to show you how to build a wheel from a hub, a rim, and a pile of spokes and nipples, and I'm sure you don't want me to go that far with your wheel.

So far it's my (mountainbike) front wheel that's for the full treatment.

Wow, do you reckon you can build a whole wheel in one sitting?

The last wheel I built took 10 months

Although I'm pleased to say that it coped perfectly with its first week's use (apart from a quick ride up and down my street) of downhill holiday in Les Arcs

I'm not sure wheel (sic) get it completed in the one evening. Probably laced, and a talk through the principles of truing, then demonstrate truing on some "customer" wheels.

A complete build usually takes me about 2 hours, though that is often 1 3/4 hours then a break as I get frustrated with the truing/tensioning cycle, and then 15 minutes when it all miraculously comes together rather quickly. I think it's the tea that makes it all work.

That's really strange as that pretty much sums up my wheelbuilding, although I tend to have a day's break in between

No worries, Sean.

We can do a short truing lesson on Saturday if you want - though the weekend fee rises to a coffee from Regalino's

The first time I tried truing a wheel I took apart an old rear one for practise, but didn't realise the spokes were of different lengths from one side to another. So they all got mixeed up in the rebuild, resulting in a weird pretzel-shaped wheel

I thought the clubroom opened at 8. If not, we'll nip across the road for a pint.
