Andrew,
I am sure you will not regret it. I bought my hub and then took it to a shop and got it built up. Looking at the prices now maybe I didn't get the best deal.
If you have a look at Bike Plus at the moment they are offering a Schimdt hub built onto a Open Pro with a B&M lamp for £201, which if I was buying again now I would definitely consider. The advantages of the Schmidt apparently is that when the bearings go after 50,000 miles you can send them back and get them serviced. I don't think you can get that with the Shimano ones.
At the other end of the spectrum Bike Plus are also offering a Shimano Nexus hub, the most basic, built onto a basic rim for £60 without a lamp. Both the Pauls in Bike Plus know their stuff, one being an extensive tourer and the other having completed PBP. As the saying goes you pay your money and you take your choices. Good Luck
