I have Fulcum 3s on my race bike. I don't have Zondas but have had Campag wheels before, they were fantastic and I wish I'd gone for Zondas over the Fulcrums. Don't get me wrong the Fulcrums are very nice and acceleration is very good, just not as strong or quite as good as the Zondas in my humble opinion.

Good to know since I was thinking of getting some new wheels and couldn't decide between Zondas and Fulcrums.
I weighed my Open Pro's on Veloce hubs the other day: over 2kgs for the pair!

Is this a U-turn on the "I want a pair of Zipps*" position of about a year ago?

Never have I ever wanted a pair of Kysriums! But if your confusing them with Zipps, its not so much a U-Turn as a realistation of whats going to make the difference...

There are a few lightweight yet affordable options e.g. Soul S2.0 and S3.0 http://www.bikesoul.com/wheeldivision.html and Xero XR1s, all of which have received some excellent reviews. They look pretty smart, too.

I'll almost certainly be getting a pair of Soul S3.0s myself in the New Year.

I had a pair of commuting wheels built by GBs about 5 years ago - nothing too flash, Veloce / MA3s. They've carried a fair bit of weight (not just me, but paper files and small child for a couple of years too) and I only broke my first spoke about 3 months ago. Not much wrong with the build quality there, then.

Thanks guys. Narrowed it down to the Easton Ascent IIs and DT Swiss Mon Chasseral. Both less than 1.5kg - not that I'll notice crawling up Hautacam at 2mph, sobbing and dribbling on the handlebars.

Just a footnote:

When I was looking, the Easton's were inferior quality to Boras, they were more flexible and the finish wasn't as good (but they were cheaper).
