Issodoun, France - The head of the French Anti-Doping Agency (AFLD), Pierre Bordry, has criticized inspectors from the sport's governing body the UCI for "leniency" with regard to certain teams, the daily L'Equipe reported Tuesday. According to the repoprt, a UCI inspector had coffee with officials from Lance Armstrong's Astana team in Andorra on Saturday and did not carry out the doping tests on the targeted Astana rider or riders until 55 minutes later.
This effectively ruined what was meant to be a surprise doping test, L'Equipe wrote.
While not confirming the details of the incident, Bordry told RTL radio that testing carried out by the UCI was "less professional" than that done by his agency.
"The same rules and procedures must be applied to everyone," Bordry said.
The AFLD and UCI are working together on the Tour after a dispute between race organizers and the Swiss-based body was resolved.

[quote]LA has been tested less this summer than Cavendish but they somehow omit to mention that.

Yes, that occurred to me at the time. They mentioned that a Certain Rider had been tested 3 times in 48 hours, but gave no context. It would have helped to know how often was Ricco tested last year, for example, or how often the yellow jersey can expect to be done. Without that, their protestations of unfair treatment left me none the wiser and no better informed.

And what about other surprise performers? Wiggins was always stylish enough to do well on the road. But his new-found ability to take anything other than a left turn must have the testers shaking their heads in disbelief  .

I think the standard protocol is that after each stage, the following are tested:
Stage winner
Yellow Jersey
Green Jersey
White Jersey
Polka Dot Jersey

Plus a "random" selection from the rest of the peloton.

So, with a late finishing stage one day, and a short, or early finishing stage 2 days later, 3 testings in 2 days (48 elapsed hours) would not be at all unusual for a jersey holder.

[quote="marco"]Plus riders targetted for having suspiscious profiles.

That's sort-of what I meant by "random" selection
[quote="marco"]Garmin and Highroad have thorough internal testing as well under Daamsgard. Astana started off with that but it strangely stopped a few months ago. Can't think why...

Presumably they found a better testing protocol to allow them to detect any possible cheating by their highly-tuned-but-never-tested-positive-role-model-miracle-athletes, so didn't need Daamsgard....

This from Eurosport:

[quote]BREAKING NEWS - Inigo Landaluze and Ricardo Serrano have been provisionally suspended by the UCI after testing positive for the banned blood booster CERA. Landaluez, of the Euskaltel team, tested positive during last month's Dauphine-Libere race in France and Fuji-Servetto's Serrano was caught during the Tour of Switzerland, also in June.

No idea what this is all about, the main thing is I may have pipped Marco to the story :P .
