[quote="Mo Jaffer"]how fast?

21+ mph?

For speed it depends on the circuit.

I averaged about 21-22mph at Palace I think. Approx 1 hour races in the 3/4s - I'm a lowly 4th and was dropped at some point each week (but later and later as I got used to the pace and racing). I think Stu, Sylv and co who were challenging for honours averaged about 23-24mph.

At Chertsey (4th cat only race and again about 1hr) which is/was wide and flatter I could cruise around in the bunch without breaking sweat at 25mph average.

Never raced at Hillingdon.

The few races I've done (about 12) the form has tended to be bloody hard from the gun for a few laps, then settles down a bit, then picks up towards the end. At Palace I struggled to hang on to the bunch in the initial 10 laps when the pace was very high (bloody hill got me after a few laps at the pace they take it), this meant getting stranded and having to slog it out on my tod. Was probably going as quick as the lead bunch when they settled down but never going to close the gap again, and of course you're doing all the work when your stuck on your own so it's more tiring. The leaders pick the pace up again towards the end but by then I was knackered so they would pull away a bit more again. Only a 1km lap at Palace so a lot of people, myself included, would get lapped before the finish - although I did avoid that once :) .

For your first race Mo just give it your best, try as hard as you can, and try and take in as much as you can. You'll learn a lot of useful stuff for your next race.

Yeah its called plagiarism and it happens all the time  Wow I can't believe i just typed that word out. I first heard it used 22 years ago by a rapper called LL Cool J when he was interviewed by Mike Allen on Capital Radio. Long live old School Rap Music 8)

Hmmm ....sounds familiar

If that's what 2*20 is then I reckon I did at least 5*20 riding round the IOW

2/x+1 + 3/x-1 = 5/x(x)-1

the x(x) is meant to be x squared.

I know the answer do you? 8)

Keiran if your that keen to do my maths h.w:

4x-3/2 = 9x-6/8 + 2 3/4

well, given the complete lack of bracketing in the equation I have had to guess but is the answer : 4/5, using the fact that (x+1)(x-1) = (x^2 -1)

Mo - I think you need to put some brackets in to clarify the equation. I suspect you mean:

2/(x+1) + 3/(x-1) = 5/(x.x -1) where x.x is x^2 (i.e. x-squared).

If so the answer is x = 4/5 (i.e. 0.8).

You need to multiply all terms in the equation by (x+1)(x-1), cancel the common terms on each numerator and denominator and it simplifies nicely to:

2(x-1) + 3(x+1) = 5 (note that (x+1)(x-1) = (x.x -1) - the difference of two sqaures)).

Gather up the terms to give:

5x + 1 = 5 so x = 4/5.

If you have any more difficult mathematical questions - I'm sure Marek will be able to answer them.

OK - so using brackets confuses the Message Board as it confuses them with smileys.

Notice though that wording in my previous post inadvertently got turned in to the cool smiley. That can't be a coincidence. It must say something about me.

Anyway - we are wondering off topic and everyone is showing off how clever they are.

So who is going to win on Saturday? Is anyone running a book? I know who I favour. Maybe we could have a prize for correctly guessing the winner in each race???? Sealed submissions to Toks before the race.

ha, glad to have confirmation Tony, seems we posted answers exactly the same time so an nice proof of independence (assuming we only communicated via this forum I suspose)

There you go, Mo , see the wealth of talent you can exploit for your h.w., I'm sure others here will be expert in other areas. Sylv - help with French, Marek with Polish etc, we have some artists as well I believe? What subjects you studying ?
