[quote="Alan M"]As I said, if you do it at the AGM you run the risk of this. AGMs are for rule changes and electing officials to make decisions - what a balls up!

Balls up, is that an option on the shorts and will there be a vote on 'up' or 'down' at the AGM?

Cheers

Looks like some people want to write an appendix  .

Go to AGM, vote on the kit you like the best, club in conjunction with GBs sort out details with Santini and get new kit made up, go to GBs and buy new kit if you want some. Simples.

Right I'm off to nail a jelly to the wall.

I hesitate to get into this, but I will admit I was one of the (slim) majority who voted at committee for a vote at the AGM. The way I saw it was that there were a few ways to put a choice of kit before the members:

On the forum
Easy to implement but no way to be sure only first claim members are voting and also a risk of sockpuppet accounts. Also the internet is a very bad place to try to hold a serious discussion (as I believe some people are continuing to prove on here). There are a few people who don't look at the forum at all for their own reasons and they might feel disenfranchised.

e-mail vote
Again, easy but we don't have accurate e-mail addresses for everyone. Also something like that runs the risk of being caught by spam filters

Postal vote
Probably the fairest but complicated and expensive

Show of hands on the club run
Kind of random depending upon who turns up

AGM Vote
Well, people who are there to vote on things that effect the club so why not? Clean, simple, decisive.

All the methods have their downsides and some people are going to be unhappy whatever happens. I haven't even got onto whether it should be FPTP, STV or AV ...

err.... the point is why put stuff to a vote when we have elected committee members to lead and inspire us..... As you imply none of the items below have much between them in democratic terms but at least the committee have kicked it around - and I daresay have now kicked it into touch. Ah well!

I'm not quite sure what you mean by "kicked it into touch". The committee took an initial set of designs and (using AV if you're interested) whittled it down to 2. There will be a vote at the AGM on the 7th December and that will decide which of the two new designs to adopt (or whether to stick with the existing). Once that's settled then it'll be ordered and should be available in GBs early next year.

If the final decision is is to stick with the existing then it is kicked into touch - no? It beggars belief that the committee could have wasted so much time in discussion for this to be the outcome, frankly I despair!

Oh and no change isn't an option as far as I was aware, decision was made to change kit.

The appears to be some confusion here:
[quote="Jon C C on a Bianchi"]
Anyway, all this might be completely irrelevant - there IS going to be a 'no change vote' at AGM. So we might end up with the current kit for another year!

If there is to be a vote for no change, is it going to be 2 votes:

or 1 vote:

?

If the decision at the AGM were to be "no change", then that would be an active decision of the membership. In no way would it be "kicking it into touch."

Like Andrew, I understand that the decision has been made (by the committee) to change the kit. The committee could not choose between the two most popular designs (there was a poll of committee members, the two most popular designs were separated by 1 vote - not enough to make such a decision on behalf of the whole club) so decided to ask the membership to make the decision in the best (or least bad) way available and practical. This was felt to be a vote "Option A or Option B" at the AGM.

Perhaps you could have made a difference to the decision if you'd bothered to come to the committee meeting, Alan? The date of the meeting was known for 10 months in advance.

The decisions have been made by the committee, now help drive the club forward and stop sniping.

Maybe a vote by the committee is needed to determine whether there has already been a vote on whether to change the kit? If passed, the membership should then also vote on whether the previous vote was in fact the vote or, if was not the vote, then the membership should vote whether to ask the committee to vote on the sort of vote that the membership should use to vote on a new kit. If the vote on the sort of vote by the membership is passed, then the committee can duly vote on the sort of votes. The results of the votes from the sort of votes can then be voted on by the membership. The committee can then hold a vote to ratify the votes from the sort of votes than have been voted on by the membership.

Have I got that right? Or have I oversimplified things? :?

As a PS - why not agree a fixed cycle - say every seven years - to update the kit?

I thought that this was the case but apparently it wasn't. The secretary is clear - there will be a 'no change' vote. It's probably in the rules somewhere but I don't pretend to have the slightest idea where. someone suggested it might be chapter 8, paragraph 410, sub section 93, amendment 18, sub clause 3. you'll have to look it up.

I don't have any problem with this. Democracy is a good thing, it might make the AGM interesting - just turn up and vote for the new kit or else!!!
