They are mighty fine Mr. K but may be a bit bulky for Sylv - he like to have naked hands and feel the road.
Silk liners are great for cutting out the cold without adding bulk. Today I had my Specialized Equinox autumn/spring gloves on ('09 vintage, I think they've changed slightly since). Slim fitting and keep out a lot of the cold as the outside facing part is a bit neoprene-y. Nice BG pad for the ulnar nerve and a sort of fake suede palm bit so grippy. Good sized snot wipe too.
Base layers and winter jacket - If they have any left go to Aldi. I ran in quickly so no-one saw me and picked up a long sleeve thermal base layer for £10 and a soft shell type jacket for £15. I've have the short sleeve version of the base layer from before and they are excellent. The jersey looks similarly good, hem gripper, fleecy collar, beard guard, etc, etc. For £15 it appears to be an absolute steal, although I dread to think what kind Victorian mill owner practices are being used in production to flog them that cheap. I never said they were fair trade though.
