although. I recently went on an organised off-road ride on the South Downs where a guy turned up on a uni-cycle. Fixed wheel wasnt enough for him, clearly he thought brakes and handle bars was for poofs. Im not sure what amazed me most, the fact that he kept up with us or the fact that hed kept out of a lunatic asylum . . . .

Well it's late November and bloody cold so has winter arrived yet?
I've had my fixed out for the CR a couple of times now, and have seen a couple of others of late.
I intend to be out on fixed again this Saturday, so will there be enough for a fixed group yet?
Does this idea still have legs or has it died on its backside?

it's got legs but i haven't at the moment

did all my end of season riding on the fixed - loved every minute of it - then got a bad cold and chest problems cos 30 people in our air-conditioned office all had the same thing.

Been off for two weeks now but almost well again so I'm hoping to be on fixed as soon as possible

I'm away on the 2nd but plan to be out on fixed most weeks over winter anyway. I just wanted to push this back up in case it had slipped some people's minds / they never saw it / have only just got a fixed.

Hope your back soon Huw. Don't you just love air conditioned offices, perfect for spreading all those lovely germs around. So much healthier to open a window and get a nice icy blast whip through occaisionally :D .

Hey chaps, you've just got another recruit for the fixed wheel team. I've just bought a new frame off ebay and will be raiding my spares box and/or canibalising my track bike to get it built up. Well, I say "new frame", but it's actually the same age as me, a 531 Holdsworth from 1969. Never ridden fixed on the road before, so I might have to do a bit of local pootling about before venturing out into the big wide world.

Thats great news Jon. I Knew the Tester would take this up. I'm converting my Old Claud Butler I've had for nearly 30 years! Does need a new lick of paint but just want to get it up and running ASAP. I'll be riding 65" as I need to get up some Hills round here.

Blimey, was this a "don't worry you'll grow in to it" bike. :D

Unless the hills are really steep or long I wouldn't worry too much, it's the manic twiddling down the other side that becomes more of an issue on a low gear.

Looks like we might have a Holdsworth / CB revival going on hear ! . Last month I brought a mid 60's Claud Butler off ebay – Ive booked it into to Vaz Finishes in Catford this Saturday for a respray + replica decals . Mario Vaz’s first job was working for Holdsworth , and his workshop is almost a museum of bike records going back over 40 years !!

Plan is to ride a 72 inch over the winter months - perhaps even enter a few medium gear TT's as an early season warm up !!??

Hi Matt,
Got my fixed resprayed at mario's a few years ago.
He's a nice bloke and does a decent job considering it only cost £40. Some of his decals are reprints of variable quality. The 531 decals I bought off him faded quite badly after a couple of months.
Does he still charge £40 or has it gone up?

Interested to know about Vaz, and his prices, location. Want to get my fixed resprayed (and as a vintage Holdsworth he should give me a discount :D ) Does 40 quid (ish) include a ful strip, prime, plus top coat and laquer as that sounds bloody good value.

Cheers,
Andrew.

got my track bike sprayed there too, if your frame needs work he can get that done prior to the respray, just let him know. Mine cost about £60 but due to fact the colour I picked was not part of the basic range but metallic (?)
