my winter bike still has a campag veloce groupset from the 80s which works great!

Another benefit of Campag is that you have the same components in each Ergo lever allowing you to choose which side you want to control your front of rear and rear mechs - great for us left handers (not that I have a choice). Shimano determine that for you.

This makes a big difference for disabled riders and in the past we have a few paralympic gold medalists which swear by Campag for this reason.

And it looks soooo much better..... 8)

I , like mrpvt have some mid 70s campag, being of the same age and all!! Works lovely, lots of the Aussies use shimano, perhaps it needs the lovely aussie sun to work properly, we have sun out here you know! :wink:

This calls for an in-club contest to settle this issue once and for all.

Take two or more riders of the same ability and size, one on Shimano and one on Campag. Then devise some head to head tests, à la Top Gear.. Example, longest freewheeling distance. Shortest braking distance. Highest speed in a sprint. I don't know how we could compare the shifting though
