I don't know the details but would the cafe at Charlwood be a good starting place??

They would benefit / be able to help with the teas at the start.
There is a fooball pitch opposite so maybe there is parking and showers?

Would it be too far away though? Are there any other drawbacks that my simple mind has missed??

Too small, too far away and closed on a sunday - though I was thinking of offering it to Renata as a feed station option - I'm sure she'd open on a sunday with the prospect of several hundred riders passing through

I think all the start places suggested so far are too small - we need something like a leisure centre (Crawley?) then we could get down to the coast

Sorry to pipe on about SLH but, their club house is opposite Coulsdon Library, there are showers for males and females, a large hall - big enough for a full size badminton court, a kitchen, a stocked bar with till as well as these features it's also got Lions Green car park 50 yards away. You don't have to go south down the A23, you could go up Chipstead Valley Road but bear left after the post office up that drag past the primary school then drop down past Fanny's farm shop to lead you out into the lanes.

Just a thought...

sounds good - obviously the closer to the club run start we made it the more authentic it would be

That alley is now the smoking area for the Comrades club next door. They've got a nice little awning there to stand under that's right outside the clubhouse door. Nothing nicer then a big cloud or Marlboro smoke to fill those run weary lungs...

Huw, If you are serious PM me some provisional dates and I'll find out about prices and availability.

How about start/finish at Selsdon Park Hotel.

Thats pretty close to the CR with plenty of space.

Maybe George could ask some of his TdF buddies to ride it .

That would get the numbers up
