[quote="Andrew G"]Do you remember what you did on your run Adam? Or is it a secret kept close to your chest  .

I can't unfortunately, I seem to remember it being a good bit lower than what I have achieved on the road though. I was having an interesting discussion with my coach, plus some BC coaches about how Watt bikes must be greasing the palms of BC well for all this publicity!!

They were set up with a pretty low gear on the day though.

If everyone's interested I'm pretty sure I can borrow a couple for an evening at the club room?

Haha, the truth of what you can put out wearing a pair of jeans and trainers, on a bike that doesn't fit!?

Oh no - these are infinitely adjustable to personal ride position - and you would have the opportunity to warm up however you saw fit and wear what you like.

So could I change the bars, saddle and pedals?

For the preparation, about three pints and flipflops should be adequate...

Absolutely, 185s for such a short effort wouldn't you say?

Toks, re your comment about Pooley etc I suspect that although a lower power output it still wouldn't be that shabby. The people testing would probably ask someone like that back for a further test even if they didn't hit the magic figure they'd use some judgement on what figure was produced against the size (or lack of) the person producing it.
Nah, I disagree mate. If you're basing tests purely on sprinting potential (which I'm sure BC are not) you're gonna miss non sprinters. Its interesting how peeps like Erick Rowsell and Mark cavendish didn't do so well in tests but used impressive results to force their way on to development programs etc. Don't quote me but I'm sure C. Boardman's sprint effort was a lowly 900watts or so. Pretty low when compared with Cippolini and the type could bang out close to double that figure. Nevertheless both were able to ride the tour deemonstrating that its not simply your ability to sprint that counts in endurance cycling events but in the main your sustainable power. With his current sprint power alone I'm sure Adam would dust off 80% of the pro peleton. Its just that small matter of 60-80 watts of threshold/TT power thats keeping him from making a decent living from simply riding his bike :D

from what i gather it's not a sprint test it's an ultimate power test. Much different from sprint ability. Hence my comment about factoring in size for a guide to power to weight which will be relevant regardless of discipline.

Are you pulling my leg now? Dude if you're giving absolutely everything you've got for 6 secs that absolutley is sprinting! Of course its absolute power because as we know the largest power output you can deliver on a bike is from a standing start. Its about the recruitment of muscular power hence skinny endurance types won't generally fair so well.

Now this would make an interesting evening. I'd like to know just out of curiosity how many watts I can bang out as I really have no idea. I can hold my own in the club run sprints and rarely get beaten (maybe thats down to luck :D )

Are the club runs now run as road races?

Not at all Rob though the way some people try and race away up the Reigate steps makes you think some people are :D

Its still nice to have a sprint now and again just before the cafe...I see it as a race to get to the front of the queue for my tea and cake.
