As a relative newcomer to road cycling, I thought Lance was a pretty decent guy, until I read "It's not about the bike."
In the beginning, I thought that he had a tough upbringing and a certain determination about him but as it goes on, you see read how self-obsessed he is, his ego, how it's "his way" or the hard way and basically his utter selfishness.
He talks about getting respect from people but how can he have the front to come back into a sport, into an existing team with someone like Contador as team leader and bully his way about. Where's the respect for Contador??!! It's alright for Lance to jump on with Columbia for the break but Contador dazzles on the slopes and Lance makes a big deal of saying it was against the plan....
I appreciate the work he does for charity and cancer awareness etc. If the money he raises can save just 1 life then it's worth it but it doesn't mean I have to like him as a person.
As for the doping side of things, it's not right that people cheat but it's human nature (for some). So as long as there's sport, they'll be people willing to break the rules.
Watching the Giro, I felt for Contador and Evans as they rode their asses off to keep up with Valverde but I enjoyed the spectacle of it, as i'm enjoying the drama of the tour.

I watch it, enjoy it and it inspires me to get out and ride my bike, so I guess that's all that matters.
